I had one for years that I purchased for about $10, and while it was good enough in a pinch, it was never quite "good enough". This one for only a few dollars more is a huge upgrade. In all, the contents are basically the same. What sets this kit apart is in one sense, the size. Down to the spools of thread, all are just larger, so will last longer. Additionally, the quality is a step up in most respects, particularly the actual thread. Most else is about the same, and pretty low. What you would expect from such a kit and at such a price. What also makes this kit so good is its immense inventory of all manner of tools and equipment. From buttons to pins to needles to snaps, even. This to scissors to tape measure(s) (yes, there are two!), to darning hooks. They really went the extra mile to load in all but the kitchen sink.Lastly, the case itself is very nice. Almost a faux leather feel to it, so not altogether "cheap" in handling.I suspect for most casual users like me, doing mostly emergency repairs, this kit will last for a long time.Wel done, and easy to recommend.

We got this kit to take with us camping in our RV and it perfect. Small and compact does not take up much space and has everything I can think of we would ever need to make any type of repair on the go. I'm sure at some point this will come in handy and it will have exactly what we will need.

In the picture provided on the listing, the kit looks pocket sized where you can set it in a purse or a travel bag. But this kit is actually similar in size to a cookbook. Not as thick as a cookbook, but similar overall in size. There are a ton of supplies that is perfect for whatever you may need it for.I specifically picked this out because I want to learn how to sew. I've never done it before and thought this kit would have everything I would need to learn the basics. I've held on to ripped jeans instead of throwing them away because there's a ton of fabric there that could still be used, I don't want to throw it all away. Jeans are also so expensive and I hate having to keep buying more.I'm very satisfied with this kit and it was very surprising to see the size difference compared to the listed pictures the seller provided and what I actually have. $15 is a decent price for this even if I wasn't reviewing the kit.

If I could give this 6 stars, I would!I saw the photo before I ordered it, but once I received it, I got a better idea of how much stuff is actually in this kit! I'm an avid sewer, and thought it would be nice to have a portable kit for the cabin, or on trips, etc. I'm really impressed with this set! Way too much stuff to even list (listed below LOL), but pretty much anything you could need for a small project or an emergency. The color array is very impressive - more shades than I own in my home sewing machine kit! I'll list some items - 36 solid colors of thread, 5 multi-colored threads, tape measure, magnifying glass, safety pins, spare B&W buttons, colored buttons, scissors (the ones that cut really close to the fabric so you don't have any flyaways), seam ripper, marking pencil, regular scissors, sewing needles, threader, another tape measure, more needles, push/snap buttons, plastic needle, crochet needle, tomato/strawberry pincushion (the one grandma had!), 2 thimbles, 4 bobbins, marking pins (for crocheting/knitting), small clothespin-like plastic spring clamps, and pushpins. Honestly, I cannot think of one more thing I'd include in this! And it comes in a really nicely fitted pleather case where there's a place for everything and everything in its place.

I remember leaving home with a nice little sewing box, and it was vital to keeping me going out on my own, without my home resources, for a lost or loose button, or open seam. This kit would be ideal for your student heading off to college or as a comprehensive collection to toss into a wedding shower gift. The threads alone are worth the price, for either repairs or crafting. If you need a color that's not there, I'd be surprised.I really was impressed by all that is here, from a wide selection of regular needles to some snaps to two different tape measures, to scissors. The elastic "ties" inside hold everything fairly securely. It's as represented in the ad, except:I had to doc them a star because it's shown repeatedly and said to be small and compact. It's even called "travel size". I invite you to compare the photos in the ad with my hand holding the kit. This is not tiny. It's not HUGE, but they don't give accurate rep in the ad of actual dimensions. Please see my photos. Zipped shut, I measured it at approx. 10" x 7.5". I didn't grab a thickness, but I'd guess about 1.5 - 2" thick when zipped shut.Overall, this is a pretty neat kit. My sewing supplies over the 37 years of marriage and 2 kids (recently on their own) have been exhausted and scattered. So this kit really appealed to me to reorganize and have a new location for both practical daily and crafting needs. It's absolutely worth the current price of $15.79 but in reviewing the ad, it clearly advertises it as a travel kit. I mean, yea, it could be. But it's not as photographed, as tiny, slipping into a purse, travel sized. As long as you KNOW that: I highly recommend it for the price.
