They have almost no throw (distance), are very small and not powerful, need to be within a few feet with little to no surrounding light to have any effect.

OK so I have never bought stroke lights before I never had the need too except when we started having a little rodent problem in the garage I bought these lights to use in the garage cuz the rats allegedly are supposed to be annoyed by them and leaveAND in fact they did!!!! it was so crazy like I after 3 nights there were no scratching or noises coming from the garage like they used to they all left because of the lights were really blinding To them ... and annoying . they could not focus in the dark when the lights are flashing So they get annoyed and don't deal with it and leave. this is a great alternative to traps and sticky Matt's because I used to hate to kill them because to be honest they are living things trying to survive in the world as well am I ... s o who am i to stop a living thing from trying to survive.

Bought for Halloween. Put outside in yard to highlight decorations. Worked well through rain and wind as well.

When I turned it on, there is a smoke from this light. How can I return it to you?

I purchased a whole bunch of these a couple years ago in the white version for $4 ea. this is a blue one. They work as expected but the light output is not quite as bright as a professional arc discharge strobe light (costing over $100) so don't expect much from a ~$10 strobe light. These are really good for effect lighting for holiday displays etc. in dark areas and are in no way for pro use. Please note that these are not UL listed and carry absolutely no safety mark(s) at all not even a "Bob's 2nd chance test lab" mark like ETL or TUV, nothing, nada, zip LOL! Not having any safety marks listed on the product from a reputable test lab (or even a not so reputable one) makes me think that this was never tested for fire shock and Hazards at all so use at your own risk. They're not intended for outdoor use at all what so ever but I have sealed them up with gorilla duct tape and had them outside in the rain and even snow for over three Halloween's now 6h a night ~30 days a year and most still work! Only one has died on me this year but my guess is internal corrosion of the potentiometer that controls the strobe speed. I re-designed these with an overload interrupt (fuse) and arc fault protection (of my own design) for safety, just in case these go south, I don't want to be frying any squirrely's birds or chipmunks while these things are running. If you are concerned with safety I would stick with something that has at least some sort of safety test mark on it or something made from a manufacturer like ADJ or Charvet. If you don't care about your safety and just want something to flash a light on somthing else for like a Halloween decoration this will get the job done perfectly on the cheap. If you're looking for a strobe light to light up a dance floor or a room or something like that look, elsewhere and don't expect to pay $10 LOL Be safe and have a happy Halloween!
