I picked this up for my twins' 6 year birthday, as they'd both been expressing a growing fascination with science and learning overall. We looked at a couple of different substances under the slides provided and they were mesmerized! I envision having to get more slides before I know it, as we'd have looked at seemingly everything under the microscope before too long! Strongly recommended for kids who are interested in learning and examining things!

I recently got this all-metal microscope for my kids, and it has exceeded my expectations! The all-metal construction gives this microscope a sturdy feel. It feels durable enough to withstand occasional rough handling by kids while also appealing to adults for educational use. With magnification options ranging from 100X to 2000X, this microscope provides clear and detailed views of specimens. The lenses are sharp, and the images are bright, making it easy to observe even the smallest details.

The grandkids are at the right age to be excited about learning fun things and this scope is perfect for that. It does work like the advanced ones you would find in a lab or high school science class. Loved it a lot.

1) The 2-sided lightsource mirror has surfaces that refect little light. Your own image on the flat side is like looking thru wax paper.2) There is no obvious way to use the LED light source. It appears to have been designed for something else.3) The documentation is inadequate - few words and no pictures or diagrams.NOTE: I am a retired, masters-degreed mechanical engineer who has used microscopes since I was a high-school freshman.

The microscope is pretty solid for kids and beginners. It feels sturdy since it's all metal, which is good for use at home or in school. The slides and specimen preparation kit that come with it are nice additions, making it easier to get started with observing stuff. However, there are some issues. The 40x zoom has way too much chromatic aberration, which can be really annoying and makes the images less clear. The diaphragm doesn’t seem to have much effect, so it’s hard to adjust the light properly. Also, the phone mount is a pain to use; it’s just not user-friendly at all.Pros:- Good for beginners- Sturdy all-metal construction- Comes with slides and preparation kitCons:- Excessive chromatic aberration on 40x- Diaphragm doesn’t work well- Hard to use phone mount

The microscope is not equipped with a light and the description says it can magnify 2000 times, which is false advertising.
