Bought my first at a garage sale for next to nothing. After using it once, I threw away my old zester which was awful. Have since gifted it to quite a few friends and family members. In addition to zesting citrus, which it does beautifully, it's also good for finely shredding hard cheeses like Parmesan and for grating garlic.

This is way better than an old style traditional rasp for trimming animal hooves. This shaves away hoof wall with ease.

I love a good zester and this is the style that makes the most sense to me. This is definitely a cheaper feel than one I've ordered in the past. It's a gift and I had to spend about 15 minutes to push the zester back and forth, from both ends, to scrape/remove some of the plastic so it will be much more user friendly.

I don't often write reviews, but this thing inspired me to. I read other reviews that said they didn't miss the handle, so I took a chance. I admit that it required a little creativity to figure out the best grip for my hand personally, but the joyful part came when I slid a fresh chunk of pecorino romano down the length of this very sharp tool to then watch the snowfall of fine, soft cheese float down to the waiting porcelain collection dish. So easy, so efficient. And made in America, baby! Excellent quality. I might actually score a bunch for Christmas prezzies...

Óptimo para ralar somente a parte vidrada dos citrinos. Em relação a outros raladores microplane tem a vantagem de ralar mais fino. Óptimo produto!

It does exactly what I had hoped it would! It zests citrus, makes parmesan nice and fluffy, and finely grates both ginger and garlic (perfect for small dishes). One with a handle might be slightly more intuitive to hold, but I got used to this one quickly. It cleans easily (a couple taps upside down or a rinse under water), and doesnt take up much drawer space. If you want to grate things in bulk, get a more coarse grater- this has "micro" in the name for a reason. The long length makes it pretty fast to use, since you can get long strokes in, compared to a shorter grater.

I purchased the same thing about 30 years ago when the plane made the transition from carpentry to kitchen - it cost me $30 in those days and after so many years of use and abuse it finally was time to replace it - this one is exactly the same thing as the one of 30 years ago, just at 1/3 of price - what a bargain! There are many shapes and sizes but this is the original, perfect for hard cheese, nuts, garlic, onion and so many others ... easy to wash, no cuts from the sides and no aromas left behind - Microplane is still THE grater to buy and from them all, this simple one is the most multi purpose and best value out there ... enjoyUpdate July 18-2018: I noticed that few from the reviews have been disappointed from a lack of a handle. This design is best if the grater is placed flat on top of a bowl, plate, etc.; This way you have best position for grating (the most force without pushing hard) and the safest for your fingers. I do have a few with handles but those need to be either hand held or leaning on something (the cutting board, plate, etc.) which means I grate with my arm at an angle, my arm gets tired, I need to push more that I should which means that I could get nipped by the grates - so I love the simple and safe design

I ordered the microplane 40001 zester recently because I find myself having more and more recipes that call for lemon, lime or orange zest. In fact, since receiving the zester last week I have used it four times already. It got a really good first use when I grated an entire large piece of ginger on it. I have never grated ginger so quickly and effortlessly. I have used it to zest an orange, lemon and lime, all with great ease. The zester is high quality stainless steel and comes with a convenient and very durable plastic sleeve with grroves where you can just slide it back in when you are finished using. The grater itself is quite sharp. It is super easy to clean with just water and a little soap. I have delayed getting one of these for a long time and I'm so glad I finally decided to get one. The price is really good. I'm sure a more expensive model with a handle would be nice, but I find it to be unnecessary. It was comfortable to use even while grating that large piece of ginger.

Yes, it is true. This high quality item is actually made in the United States Of America!I gave it 5 stars because I like things that are well made and perform the task that theywere designed to do and do it well. But wait, that's not all! Not only does it work as intended, it is inexpensive, and simple to use.It does work better for zesting or shreding some foods and ingredients better than others butthat may just be a matter of learning how to hold and manipulate the tool for that item.I said that it was easy to use and it is, but you do have to find out the best wayto hold it to fit your own hand size or the task you are preforming. Use it 2 or 3 timesand you're a Pro.For the money, and the free shipping possiblity, and crazy good way that it shavesoff parmesan and romano cheeze,go for it!Don't worry about hurting yourself, it is no more dangerous than a sharp knife or a potof boiling water. It comes with a very durable plastic guard/storage cover that protectsthe sharpness of the tool and your hands.
