Let me preface this by saying I have a Mendota slip lead which I absolutely love. LOVE. The leather piece that holds the slip in place on that one is the best I've ever used. It stays in place perfectly. I expected the same from this one, being the same brand, but unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. The leather bit that is intended to hold the martingale in place on this lead doesn't stay in place at all. This means my dog can wiggle out of it by backing up, which is obviously not ideal. I'm also not happy with the part that is meant to go on the front throat part of the dog. The medium feels too small, and the large is way too big. Perhaps this is just a problem with the size of my dog, but he's a 68lb average sized golden retriever - not an odd size by any means.I am unfortunately disappointed with this. I was really excited for it as it seems the best of both worlds with a slip and a martingale, but it did not live up to expectations. I would recommend just going with one of Mendota's slip leads instead.

I use this leash on the daily for taking my pup out for potty breaks in our unfenced yard. It's easy enough to slip on and off without having to put her back in her collar. We have to use martingale style collars for her because she is known to slip out of regular collars. I feel comfortable and confident using this one, even without a collar on as it's almost impossible for her to slip out of it. We don't use this for walks because she is still learning not to pull on a leash. Being half husky, that is hard for her but we are getting there. I hope to be able to use this with her one day without having her pull us this way and that way.

Great feel in the hand and between the thumb and index fingers. No breaking in like a leather lead. Doesn't abrade the fingertips like a nylon lead. Martingale design is perfect for a slip on and material doesn't wear hair along the neck line or provoke any discomfort for the dog. Fantastic product.

This leash with the built in martingale color, is very nice. Light weight and nicely made with leather bits. I use it everytime I walk my dog. It also dries quickly whichever is important when you live in an area with a lot of rain. My dog did step into the very long loop at first so I did a workaround by applying a rubber band. I would buy it again.

Like how easy it is to slip on and use. Love the colour!Dislike the label that product contains toxins (forgot the exact words). The label could have been clearer & less alarming if it states that tanning or colour process utilized toxic substances. This will be better understood for customers not in the region where this needs to be stated by law. Please convey to manufacturer.Deducted only 1 star because of this, it took me some research before I assumed the warning is due to tanning & colour that may not continue to affect my dog. This is won on my dog’s skin and neck, I have to be very sure!

5 stars when placed on the right size dog. Sizing and the weight of buckles and clasps is a frustrating issue for my 7 pound Toy Fox Terrier. The rope portion of the Mendota is 3/8 inch. The collar portion is 5/8 inch. The metal rings are 1 inch. The leather tether is 1 3/8 inch. It is too heavy and bulky for my little guy who gets fearful with that much around his neck.It is a little overwhelming but should be ok for my 11.5 pound TFT.The product is well made and appears to be free of flaws. Advise for product development, consider the size and weight of the rings as compared to the size of the dog that is intended to wear the collar. Don’t use the same hardware on the different size leashes meant for different sized dogs.

I'm giving this item 4* because the actual leash is built very well. We just received ours. The leather pieces are attached sturdily, the tab moves well without being loose. Color is great, rope looks high quality, just like any other Mendota leash. The only thing that is a little baffling is that the flat neck piece is maybe 3-4" long. There is no way this is made for anything but maybe a dog that is under 15-20 pounds or has a very, very slender neck.We got this one for our aussie, who is a puppy and only about 20" at the withers, for quick potty breaks since he walks on a harness and his collar is a tag holder. He is not a big dog at all. I'll be returning mine and trying a Big Dog Walker instead; it doesn't look like this leash would work as a proper martingale for him. :(

The collar/leash combination is great. My dog was able to wiggle her way out of collars and harnesses until I tried this. When she starts to pull, it becomes tighter and she stops immediately - and it does not hurt her at all. I wish there were smaller ones so I could get one for my other dogs.

Love this product. Easy to put on and take off, and will be great once I start agility with my pup. I wouldn't use it as an everyday leash/collar for walks if your dog is a puller...even though it is a martingale it tightens pretty tight. My dog isn't a puller so it works great for him. Made very well, I'd buy again.

This is a very nice, aesthetically pleasing, high quality leash. We use it for agility, and it's easy to get on and off my dog quickly. We ordered the 6', because I felt 4' would be a little short, but now I feel like 6' is a little too much. I think a 5' long leash would have been perfect. Other than that, I really like it. If your dog does agility, or if you just like to be able to slip the leash on really quick, then this is a great leash to have.
