So far these are superior to the Verbatim dual layer brand which tended to fail about 6% of the time. Arrived in a box instead of just shrink-wrapped. Going to stick with Memorex if they keep performing.

I've burnt hundreds of disc's in my life and these work as good as any I have used. The day they showed up I used six and all of them burnt perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone.

I needed some larger DVD's for tv episodes I've purchased online that I wanted to compile into a DVD so that my family could watch their favorite shows on their TVs. My original DVD's were just the 4.7 GB kind and that either meant burning around 3-4 episodes in great quality per disc, or using my program that could fit a large amount of episodes in crappy quality. So I went for these.I was confused at first because I guess I misread and thought double layer meant the old dvd's you would get for tv shows or movies that had two sides that you could flip over to access the content on the other side when the first one was finished, kind of like cassettes the way you turn to side B.These are double layer meaning you can still burn two layers of data or movies, but it all fits into one so that you don't have to flip it over, the dvd players will simply read both as one whole part so that you won't have to switch sides. I haven't had any trouble as others have complained with faulty or defective discs. I burned my shows with ease and in high quality with these great dvd's. As with any product these days there will always be problems with defective sets but that's what the refund/trade agreement is for, so I would say go for it and buy these while they're at this great price!

I normally don't write reviews but i just got tired of seeing these discs be rated so low! I have literally burned over 1000 of these discs with little to no issue. I think I've had a total of 1-2 bad discs this entire time. The ONLY time I've ever had bad burns was when it was something that I did wrong. Either my system was already loaded with other tasks and I tried to run the burn at max speed(which was only an issue a couple times) or I just chose the wrong settings. Even when that would happen the discs would still burn just fine. It's not the discs fault I attempted to burn a blu-ray movie with the wrong settings and now it can't be read by my PS3.It amazes me that people blame these discs when the issues they're having are either hardware, ignorance, or Verbatim fan boy related. It's a well known fact that some drives just don't play well with certain brands of media. I've had 6 different burners and each one has worked flawlessly with Memorex. One of my burners came with a Verbatim disc in the box and guess what? I ended up with a Verbatim coaster as it failed only minutes into the burn. I don't care what the name of the brand is. If it works...I'll use it. With WELL over 1000 of these discs burned successfully under my belt, I will keep coming back for more. No way will I pay what the other "top brands" are asking for their discs. Even if they had a sale I'd still choose Memorex because I know it works. I find it highly unlikely I've just been incredibly lucky over 1000 times in a row buying the same discs from multiple vendors over the last several years.So in closing these discs work absolutely fine for a great price. If they were as horrible as some of these ignorant fan boys claim, Memorex would've pulled them off the shelf years ago. I burn these discs at every different speed but as with any disc if you want to save yourself some hassle, always take a few extra mins and burn at a lower speed. It's been proven your discs will last longer and you'll have less coasters to deal with.

I've been shopping for the least expensive DVD+R DL online, and found this Memorex 50 pack for around $50. This seemed the best deal around only if they worked!!!I had used Verbatim in the past with no problems. So It was a gamble to order this item after reading many negative reviews. After receiving this item, I started burning DVDs and had no problems at all. Every single Memorex DVD+R DL seemed to work perfectly!For those who had trouble with this item I suspect a software or hardware incompatibility issues more than a problem with these disk. I use a 17" Apple Laptop Computer (2006 model) with a G4 processor at 1.67 Ghz. The only positive thing here is Amazon's amazing customer service which allowed me to exchange or return the defective ones. Other sellers may sell you the defective batch and may not accept a return once you open them and try to burn one.***NEW UPDATE: August 27, 2008. I received two defective sets of 50 (total of 100) with the same setup mentioned above. I tried to burn every single one of them but ZERO results. Not a single one worked. I was able to burn some of the left over discs from the last order dated March 2008.AT THIS POINT I AM WITHDRAWING MY RECOMMENDATION AND REDUCING THE 5 STARS RATING TO ONE! THESE DISCS MUST HAVE A QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE. I AM SWITCHING BACK TO VERBATIM AT A HIGHER PRICE PER DVD THAT I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH SO FAR.
