About this item

  • DREAM FOR DRUMMERS: it takes no time to set up, and you get the same kick and snare sounds as a drum set at a fraction of the volume; play with your hands toward the center to get the deepest tone and near the top corners for crisp snare effects
  • WHY IT MATTERS: a lot of musical settings don't allow for the space or volume level of full drums; with the Meinl Woodcraft Cajon, you can fully engage during acoustic shows with your band, jam sessions, or with your praise band without taking over
  • BE SMART: we craft this cajon from 100% Baltic birch wood, which also used in high-end drum sets for players serious about sound; made with NO cheap, glued-on, plasticky laminates that only look like wood
  • HOW IT WORKS: the Baltic birch playing surface delivers punchy bass with about as much volume as an acoustic guitar, and inside the cajon are two sets of fixed custom micro-coiled steel cajon strings that give you a crisp snare sound
  • ZOOM IN: the corners of the playing surface are rounded and sanded together with the resonating body so you get defined slap tones; it's perfectly flush where these two pieces meet to feel great on your hands
  • BY THE NUMBERS: measures 11 3/4" W x 19 3/4" H x 12" D and weighs 8 lbs; 7-ply (9 mm) Baltic birch body
  • THE BOTTOM LINE: you can play alongside guitars at acoustic shows, with worship music, in the studio, or at outdoor jams; four solid silicone feet keep the cajon stable, avoid scratches, and eliminate crazy vibrations on any surface
  • THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

The Birch construction allows players to dig in with plenty of attack and a warm tone. Internal fixed metal strings add a crisp and sensitive snare effect that makes it easy to produce deep back beats and articulate finger rolls. Rounded corners on the playing surface offer total comfort while maximizing your touch.

Not made in China... that's pretty funny... I don't really know where it's made from( I forgot ), but not made in China doesn't mean it's made in the USA either... I know there are few countries that makes quality instruments, But I wouldn't bet on something at this price range to meet your expectations. However, it sounds good. has good dynamic range of sounds, and it sounds good.

I'd like to point out that Meinl,, a German company that produces many instruments in Europe, made a point of stating that this cajon was not made in China in their ad. One would assume then, that this instrument was produced in Germany, where the company resides. Sadly, this is not true. This instrument is actually produced in Thailand. With that said, however, the craftsmanship seems to be of high quality for a mass produced item. The tone is good, but I wish there were a greater differentiation between tonal quality based on where you strike the instrument. Basically, I get 2 tones, a bass and a snare, with the snare sound feeling a bit hollow, lacking sizzle. In contrast, the Bass tone also sizzles a bit, It would be nice if there were more separation between the two. I guess you can only ask so much in this price range, and if I were to buy another, I would pay a bit more to have the ability to adjust the snare. All in all, this is a nice instrument for a beginner like me.
