Are there any advantages of the product?

I am restoring an old banjo barometer with a mercury J-tube. I needed a solid glass rod 6mm in diameter to fit inside of my J-tube. These fit perfectly. I ordered some 6mm tubes from another vendor but they were 7mm in diameter and would not work.

I have a standard BernzoMatic propane cylinder with a BernzoMatic Jumbo Flame Torch Head. I heated up one of these stirring rods until glowing red and by the second time I heated it up, it started cracking. These are very weak against high temperatures. I highly doubt they are real borosilicate glass and if they are they are probably the weakest grade of borosilicate out there. I also noticed that these rods have air bubbles in them which might have to do with why they are cracking so easily. If you want a good example of strong glass that can withhold high temps without cracking try the Burry Life Science Glass Stick Stir Rod. Unfortunately, those stirring rods are 6mm and I need 7mm stirring rods. Really wish Burry Life Science had 7mm rods or there were 7mm quartz stirring rods available somewhere.
