About this item

  • 90-degree mirror diagonal
  • 99% reflectivity throughout the visible spectrum
  • High precision optics are manufactured with thermally stable borosilicate glass
  • Includes a 2" to 1.25" step down adapter
  • Also includes a thread-on SCT to 2" adapter for use on standard Schmidt-Cassegrain thread rear threads

The Meade 07680 Series 5000 2-Inch Enhanced Dielectric Diagonal Mirror with Schmidt-Cassegrain Adapter uses multi-layered dielectric coatings that produce 99-percent reflectivity for brighter, sharper images. This slip fit 2-inch diagonal with 1.25-inch adapter, plus the Schmidt Cassegrain thread to 2-inch accessory adapter (for LS, LT, LX90, LX200 and other Schmidt Cassegrain rear thread screw-on systems), is compatible with both slip-fit and screw-on mounting systems. This item’s non-marring compression safety secures the eyepieces. The optics are made with Pyrex glass and comes with dielectric coatings for the most light transmission possible. This item has been interferometer-tested for excellent performance. Meade has everything you need to capture the night sky for experienced star-shooters, serious researchers and beginners alike. Serious astronomers for years have flocked to Meade telescopes for their quality optical systems and patented technology. Consumers know that "Meade Optics Inside" means that what they see through our telescopes will be views that are detailed, crisp and full of contrast. Look through a Meade this evening and see what you've been missing.

The initial diagonal i purchased 2 yrs ago was rock solid.. i recently purchased another diagonal.. unfortunately the telescope side barrel was loose.. the replacement diagonal has an eyepiece barrel loosening.. will be replacing this aswell.. i somehow feel the quality control for meade has deteriorated through the years

It perfectly fit the telescope tube. I use it for a 2” eyepiece. It comes with an adaptor for 1.25” eyepiece as well.It is very easy to use.

This 2" telescope angle is very solid and the build quality is excelent. The only issue I have is that with it installed on my Meade LX90 it wont go totally verticle because it extends out the back to far with the reducer installed. That is not the fault of this piece of equipment though. Meade LX90 telescope design issue.

I had a 2" eyepiece that I've been unable to use on the Meade LX90, and finally decided that I wanted to be able to use it. It's the only reason I bought this diagonal! If I had know how much better this was than the one that came with the scope, I'd have done this years ago! I have no need of the original now... just throw it away! This one allows me to use every eyepiece I have, 2" or 1.25", and the quality is so much better! Like looking through expensive Lica binoculars after using the Walmart special for years!

I hate writing a bad review of Meade stuff because I think the build quality is generally pretty good, but I'm just flabbergasted that this passed quality inspection. I could not get proper alignment all the way to the eye piece and decided to open up the diagonal. I found that there were 2 missing screws on one side of the mirror which was making the whole thing cockeyed. I can go to the hardware store and get a couple 1-64 screws, but really, this shouldn't have happened. Also the brass compression ring on the 1.25 adapter is bent making insertion of the eyepiece difficult.

I Picked out the bare bones parts to customize a refractor on Amazon. I like this Meade diagonal prism, like I have read on another review, that a customer complained about the loosening of both of the barrels on the triangle the mirror is mounted —due to regular not tough or rough use, they become loose after clamping down on them to secure them solidly, repeatedly in live viewing normal use.Relatively an easy fix that I performed quickly. Here is how i fixed it. First locate a small electronic screwdriver bit set for electronics repair- like a small screwdriver with like 50 or so different bits. The small T2 and T3 hex with a bump in the center worked to remove the tamperproof hex screws out of diagonal. Next you remove the two blue triangle side plates from the vessel. On the exposed sides there are 4 very small Phillips head screws holding the 2 tubular pieces, they only need a few tight turns to make tight again. Test the connection to make sure you have tightened completely. Then re-install side plates to diagonal. Better than NEW !!! Worked great for me and I had 10 more pounds of torque than the factory did originally. Now it works great—Hope this helps all the BEST John Moore

Beautiful craftsmanship. Have not used yet but im sure it will satisfy. I already know what to expect from a 2" jump from 1.25" just from reading but still looking very forward to first go. Again, the quality is superb and weighty, and a huge difference compared the diagonal that came with my celestron cgem 1100...which was not cheap!.I couldnt resist and bought a luminos barlow with it...and the quality is the same, superb. Not cheap feel or look!

Meade should start including this diagonal for their CATs (or SCTs) by default. Using 2" diagonal has been a issue with LS8 users since LS8 has very little clearance in the base of the mount. With this diagonal and the included SCT adapter, LS8 clears the bottom of the mount without any problem when pointing straight up to zenith. Image quality improvement over bundle diagonal is clearly visible. Owning f10 scope, being able to use 2" eyepiece is really nice.

I totally agree with other 5-star reviews. This is a versatile diagonal that exceeds my expectation. The precision and craftsmanship are simply super. The extra extension tube allows additional flexibility for astrophotography. It is also a great value compared to other 2" diagonal. Get it if you are looking for a quality diagonal for your 2" and 1.25" eyepieces.

This diagonal surpassed my expectations. It screws directly onto the back of my Celestron C11-XLT telescope without reducing the opening like some other direct-attach diagonals do - so none of the light cone is obstructed. The adapters that came with it make it possible to use all my 1.25" and 2" eyepieces with or without my f/6.3 focal reducer/corrector - it gives great flexibility in using the eyepieces & filters I already own. Construction and image quality is excellent. The enhanced coatings yield brighter images than the telescope's standard star diagonal. Very reasonable price for precision machining & high optical quality!

I had been wanting a 2" Diagonal for some time now and looked at many differend brands. All have the good point and faults.I selected the Meade 2" Diagonal because I felt it was just what I was looking for and met my budget requirements. Also works great with the Meade Micro-Focus unit on my LX200 8" SC scope.I really like the locking bands to hold the eyepiece in place, does not mar the eyepiece like the original unit does.I would recommend this Diagonal to anyone looking for a great product at a resonable cost.
