The weight of the hammer makes eliciting reflexes much easier. Since it telescopes, it is comfortable to use without needing to bend down to reach the tendon. I use this regularly and the quality has held up over time.

Has a good weight to it,it feels high quality and like it will last for a good while. It telescopes out to a good length that makes it easy to control the amount of force behind the swing. Compact when not in use. Took me a minute to figure out the locking mechanism to rotate the hammer from parallel to perpendicular, though once I did I like that it is not screw based but just a pulling lock mechanism. I don't like the threading on the bottom piece to pull the brush out (a little difficult to get the threads lined up).Absolutely recommend for someone who wants a quality reflex hammer.

Was encouraged by attending doctors to use a queen's square or babinski hammer during med school. Most of the $10 ones break easily and are just too awkward to fit in your lab coat and bag.The cheaper/free hammers aren't weighty or precise enough to elicit reflexes in the patients who deviate from the norm. The harder plastics can also cause pain for some patients during tests.Other collapsible Babinskis have cheap rubber and even cheaper collapsing mechanisms without a folding head. But this MDF model is backed by a fantastic warranty and is extremely sturdy. The fact that the head folds flat with the collapsing rod means you can store it like a pen. The extra weight is worth it for the reliability and not looking like a goober with a two foot stick poking out of your coat. Most importantly, the higher quality rubber causes the least amount of discomfort for the patient. The only caveat is that other doctors will try to steal it from you. But that's true for anything you carry that's under 2 lbs.
