Smart owners chg both their ATF, adding this replacement easy and will make your transmission last and shift smoother. Mazda dealerships wanted some ridiculous amount of money.

I don't like using an rtv gasket like mazda easy to leak or easy to overdo it and get extra in the transmission.Buy the wix filter for the gasket and wipe the tray magnet mine was loaded

Mazda states the transmission fluid is a lifetime fill that it doesn’t need changed. I disagree, they put a drain plug on the trans pan and a dipstick. My car 103,000 commuter miles, the fluid looked OK but the filter and pan bottom were definitely dirty. Unlike a lot of transmission filters, this one is not a screen, it’s an actual element. Mine was due to be changed for sure. I used Ravenol RZ and red RTV for the pan seal. This was the easiest transmission service I’ve ever done!

wish i would have changed it sooner. 125k miles i did 3 drain and fills over a 1k mile period, the 3rd one i dropped the pan and changed the filter. the old filter was so dirty and nasty looking i'm surprised that much fluid could get through it.
