I purchased this item to deter my husband (who has Alzheimer's) from switching off our furnace accidently. He wasn't able to distinguish this switch from a light switch. It was easy to install on my own and he hasn't bothered it since. :) I would recommend this product for anyone that needs to keep specific switches under lock and key, out of curious reach for safety reason.

My 6 year old with autism discovered the switch to the garbage disposal. I was terrified he would injure himself and found this as a solution. He is very smart and curious so the usual child proofing items meant for toddlers weren't going to cut it. This however is definitely going to keep him out when paired with a combo lock. It was easy to install and we chose a 3 digit combination lock to use so we wouldn't have to look for keys when we need to use the garbage disposal. This would work well for securing a switch to a gas fireplace as well. It has only been a few days but the peace of mind I have has been well worth the 10 dollars I paid for it.

Era lo que buscaba para proteger mi pastilla de luz. es seguro y facil de poner.Es para uso casero, pues si buscas alta seguridad no es el mas indicado, ya que su material es de plástico.Para mi fue perfecto!

Bought this 4 years ago (almost to the day) for my daughter to keep her toddler self from turning her light on at nap/bedtime. Found the same one again when looking for one for my toddler son. It works well, but if you pull on it hard enough, it will pop off, as others have said— bc of the way it assembles, in separate pieces. But it took several months for her to figure out she could open it without any lock on it, and several more for her to figure out how to pull the unit off. For $5, solving the problem for a year is good enough. Also, we were able to use a small, locking carabiner clip instead of a padlock, so we didn’t have to deal with a key. Worked well for us. Minus one star because it does pop off, though.

Parfait pour sécuriser une entrée électrique, peut être un bémol sur la qualité du matériau employé : à voir à la longue.

It was cheap and lived up to suspicions. It arrived poorly packed and broken but for the price not worth bothering with a return. Lesson learnt, quality pays for itself...

My old lady woke up one morning in an absolute panic. It was cold. The furnace was off, no lights, no nothing. While she began running around in circles muttering incomprehensible gibberish, I took a sleepy eyed walk down to the basement. I couldn't figure out what was going on, so I called a repair guy. Repair guy gave me a time estimate between late afternoon and eternity. Fantastic. I logged into work, marked myself as work from home so I could be there if he ever decided to show up. Old lady was basically fetal at this point, but I got her out of the house and off to work.I eventually remembered we had two emergency power switches for our furnace. One on the furnace itself and one up the stairs. Sure enough the one on the stairs was off. I flipped the switch, waited a few minutes for some warmth and cancelled the repair guy. Old lady had apparently turned it off instead of the lights the night before. This switch cover was mandatory after that morning. It installs in 5 minutes, including time to grab a screwdriver. It'll work on the big rectangular decora switches, you have to snap out a couple plastic pieces first through. Works with the older, smaller blade style ones (what I have) without problems too right out of the box. Once installed it puts a quick flip up door over the switch. The door snaps shut. There's a spot for a lock, but I have no idea who that would actually keep out other than a toddler or something. I wouldn't call this a security device at all.No more accidentally turning the furnace off. Keeps old lady happy (and warm). No more crazy mornings because of a switch.

I have a toddler who loves to flip lightswitches. I have one switch for an outside light I NEVER want switched, but he hasn't quite figured that out no matter how logically I explain it. This red cover is really meant for lock out-tag out safety use, as you might find in any large factory with a professional maintenance staff. I find that quite amusing! Its fine for home use. You don't even have to put the "Danger" sticker on it if you prefer not, but again, I found it subtly humorous to do so.The box itself does a fine job keeping out toddlers even without a lock. It is a bit difficult to open -- not hard for adults once you know where to grasp and pull. But toddlers won't figure it out. If you like, you could even slide a paperclip or padlock through the hole to keep it confidently shut.It was surprisingly impossible to find any other item like this in any local store, or even on Amazon. (A lot of the other ones on Amazon seemed too expensive for what you got, or too flimsy, or really not able to keep a child out. This does the job.

As expected, this works like it should. We use it on our furnace power switch. We have an old furnace and the power switch is on the side of the furnace. Unfortunately, it is in the path of where we walk when going to our washing machine. So, we have a bad habit of rubbing it accidentally and turning the furnace off. This means, until we notice, we either don't have heat during the wintertime or a/c during the summer.I bought this, put it over the switch, and we no longer worry about that problem. The cover can work with both regular light switches and with decora style switches.Very easy to install - just unscrew the existing faceplate screws of your switch, place this over the faceplate and align it over the screw holes and replace the screws. If it turns out the screws you originally had are too short, this cover conveniently comes with two long screws you can use instead. Brilliant! The only wish I had is that this comes in other colors other than red so that if you wish to use it in the house (such as in a baby's room) it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb and can match your wall color/decor.
