Bungee that attaches the pencil is rather insecure. Usually a lover of Mares, but this product is kind of a bust….

First, the picture is not accurate. Most of these slates are basically the same thing, so I allowed myself some vanity in selecting one that I at least enjoyed the looks of (so I thought). This one was supposed to basically just be black and white. Instead, the webbing is royal blue and the bungee is bright yellow. Its very distracting, and definitely not what I wanted when I spent nearly twice as much on this one vs a comparable one.Next, there are some actual downsides from a functional perspective. The pencil "holder" is just the yellow bungee that has been looped through the slate. Its actually kind of difficult to get the pencil into it, it just wants to stretch and the second you stop pushing on the pencil, the bungee rebounds and pushes the pencil out. Next, if you push too much, the bungee just pulls out of the slate from the backside. After dealing with this, I'd much rather have one of the slates with a molded plastic holder instead. Next the bungee itself just dangles in a really big loop, which is likely to catch on things while diving. Some of the others have a "coiled" bungee, which stretches out when you want it too but coils up tight and neat when not in use. This would have been much better too. And I can find slates like that for legitimately 1/2 the price of this.The only reason this got a second mark on the "ease of use" category is the buckle. It does make it a tiny bit easier to remove from your BC when you need to use it, vs the clip that the other guys have. However, not nearly enough to outweigh the cons.If I were to buy another slate, I would absolutely NOT purchase this one again, and I do not recommend others purchase this either.

The size of the slate is correct although when trying to erase it leaves smudges . The nylon webbing in the image is black but I just received mine and it was blue. Also, the rubber strip is shown as black and it the one I got was yellow. Bummer.

Good fast delivery. I use this for dinghy racing so i can write the course down before the race and have it with me in the boat. Easily cleaned and reused if you use a water based marker ( NOT a permanent marker) easily clipped on to the boat somewhere it won't get in the way of the rigging.

Comes as shown and as described, I'm a Poseidon and Mares products guy, unfortunately this isn't the greatest product by Mares but it still functions as intended and is a great value in my opinion. My only complaint really is I have found it difficult to erase this table. I have used several different types of writing utensils all with same results. Other thanthat I think it is a decent product at a fair price although nothing is perfect I would suggest that you write soft and you should be fine
