I have so much yarn, much of which is in bags or piles of ongoing projects. I've used this yarn wonder to very quickly make neat, inform sized balls that are easy to store, don't fall apart or tangle, and make it easy to see what I have. Would definitely recommend and buy again. Very good value.

Satisfaite! Par contre je dois recommencer souvent car les balles ne s'enroulent pas très bien ni égales. Trop cher.

I’ve used a friend’s yarn winder, which looks identical to this one, several times. I was so excited to get my own and after purchasing this one used I received it with a gear loose, turning my skeins into formless blobs. Thinking that I was just a one off (I did buy it used after all) I bought a new one and it had the same problem. No nice uniform cakes, just blobs. I’m not buying this product again, be wary!

Easy to use, doesn’t take too much space, and just overall good quality. I will say though, sometimes the yarn will get kind of… off track? I don’t know how to explain. But normally if that happens just go back and re-pace your speed and go a little slower.

I bought this yarn winder as I recently got into rug tufting and needed something to make cakes that wouldn’t get tangled while making a rug. Seeing the positive reviews on this winder, I decided to purchase. When it came in, I quickly put it together and clamped it to my table. I noticed that the metal guide was a bit bent and wasn’t snapping securely into place. I had to bend it back just so that it would stay in the location specified by the included instructions. The handle turned easily and I was ready to start winding. However, much to my dismay, I found that my cakes came out lopsided and messy (pictured) no matter how slow or fast I turned the handle. Coming back to the reviews, I found that other individuals had the same issue(s). As such, I placed an order for a completely different brand winder and was fully expecting to return this one since it wasn’t working properly. Since the internet is “listening,” I ended up having a very helpful, yet seemingly random, YouTube video come across my feed showing a different brand winder that was having the same “lopsided cake” issues. I watched the video, deduced the likely issue, and fixed the problem with this winder. There are two gears underneath the main “platform.” These gears are accessed by removing the cone, removing the clip attached to the metal rod that is holding the main plate on (black clip pictured on silver rod), and pulling the top of the unit off. Once the top of the unit is off, you have to reseat the gears so that the teeth are lined up. This is done by removing the large gear completely and sliding it back on or wiggling it until it’s reseated and the teeth on the large gear fit into the teeth on the small gear. After doing so, I found that this winder functions as it should (pictured).Ultimately, since I rectified the issue with this winder, I canceled the order that I had placed for the other brand winder (seems these issues are common among the cheaper manual winders anyway).Although this unit is now working as it should, a new, out-of-the-box unit shouldn’t have any issues at all. As such, because it wasn’t overly easy to access the inner workings to fix the unit, and there was more than one thing I had to fix in order to get it working properly, I’m giving this winder three stars.

I bought this to untangle and organize my yarn and it was worth buying. It makes nice cakes and the yarn rarely tangles while winding. I was able to wind all this yarn within 30 minutes. The material is somewhat durable and should last a while. My only complaint is that I wish it could make slightly bigger cakes as I work with a lot of blanket/plush/chenille yarn and some of my skeins are big.

Works fantastic. Just as I need to quickly and easily wind yarn. Balls are smaller, but winds up to bulky weight with ease. Just have to make 3 balls for a large skien of blanket yarn. Quite and efficient! Just remember CLOCKWISE !

Have used it so far to wind chenille yard for crocheting. Worked great right out of the box. Can't get any easier.

It comes with picture assembly instructions but I received it assembled except for the shuttle placement. I clamped it to a wooden tv tray. There are rubber protection on the base and clamp so it holds securely with marring. So easy to use, no loud noise, and very sturdy.I did make an addition to prevent the cake from spiraling off the shuttle, plus helps the yarn from trying to unravel at the bottom when done. I fashioned an empty paper towel tube to snuggly fit over the shuttle and used it as the “core” for the cake. It slides off easily from the shuttle and the cake can gently be centered on the core. It also helps giving a little tension to the yarn as you wind as another reviewer suggested. It does make for a snugger cake plus able to wind more yarn.Core: cut tube no more than 1/2” above shuttle, slit the side and wrap it snuggly around the shuttle and securely tape close (I used 1” painters tape along the slit), cut slits at the top to match those of the shuttle.
