This is the sturdiest, most useful flexible extender I have used.I blew up 2 dewalts before this one arrived - and this one could handle the torque and get er done!

The strength of the magnet could be a lil better but it does work well. It is pretty strong and doesn’t twist us like some of the cheaper models like these. The length is good. I do wish it blended for better flexibility. Definitely a told that everyone should have in their tools sets.

This is one of those tools that is just a pleasure to use. It feels robust and just works. I've used a few different flex shafts and this one is a keeper.

Since it is a very well build product, it is hard to bend you need some good space to work. If you don't require to work a tight spot it is perfect

i'm a serious DIY who needed to drive 2-3 inch deck screws in hard reach places, I tried one of those flexible drill adapters you everywhere online if you search for a flexible extension. The one I purchased worked but was very difficult to use because (1) the bits do not lock into the end like it does in my impact driver, and (2) the extension is designed for a drill so the extension doesn't lock in my driver either. It was almost a 4 hand process to hold the bit and screw on one end, press the extension in my driver and try to run the impact driver. The Makita B-51873 extension solves all these problems. The extension locks in my driver and holds the bits firmly. In addition, it is far more robust than the other thing I was using. It handled the deck screws I was using with no problem, so I wanted to see what the extension could handle. To test it I bent it to 90 degrees and drove 1/4 x 3 inch lag bolt into a pine 2x6 without a problem.

It’s heavy duty, made from Japan and works fantastic with my impact driver. I purchased another one that you can see all over the site, but as others have said it’s cheaply made it breaks very easily. This one is solid heavy and just works. It does have its limit, so just know how to use it.My only gripe about this is it’s very expensive, at $35 it should be $10 less. But I guess you get what you pay for.I’m very happy with an recommend it

Makita wins again for innovation. This is one of it's kind that has flex shaft AND is also impact ready. There are others out there that make this claim but hardly stand up to expectations - I have tried out the one from Ryobi and Hercules (Harbor freight). Have already used this for driving countless deck screws, lag screws and other fasteners into dimensional lumber at various positions that require flex shaft and this one always makes it mark. Makita has already lubricated and sealed the shaft with some form of PTFE grease that should keep it going for years. For those who are complaining about the shaft breaking - just make sure you do not bend it past 90 degrees because it "will absolutely" break the shaft. The instructions clearly say so. In fact if you find yourself going 90 and above then this may not be the tool for the job. You may want to consider the impact ready bit holder from DeWalt that can pivot to 120 degrees as a tool of choice - of course at the cost of loosing the flex shaft functionality.

Manage one's expectations and this will work for you. Makita recommends no more than a 90 degree bend and a 3600 max rpm. I have used it at sharper angles. The maintenance of this tool is a mystery. My guess is inside the sheath is a cable that rotates in a reinforced sheath, which is lined with some teflon material, similar to an old speedometer cable. Good tool for both narrow reach spaces and odd angle spaces. There is some friction in the mechanism and it is not obvious if it requires lubrication. Reasonably priced at $37/ea. I have not used this for drilling.

This is a great tool that works very well at high torque with impact drivers. Highly recommended to anyone who had issues with cheap flexible bit holders like me and who are looking for a reliable one.

I bought this flex shaft to use with my Makita 18 vole drill/driver when installing bathroom ceiling exhaust fans because I couldn't get the drill in at the correct angle to drive in the screws. It worked great. There is one catch though. Some reviewers have been disappointed that if the torque applied is too high the shaft will twist. Yes it will. This IS a flexible shaft and physics does apply here, and you shouldn't expect it to behave like a 90 deg gear driven device (which I didn't buy because they are SO cheaply made and everyone talked about them flying apart with stripped gears under load). So, IF you respect the limitations and either do sequential upsizing of your drill bits, or pre-drill a pilot hole for a screw, it works PERFECTLY.Oh, and yes it did twist up on me, before I really understood it's limitations, but it still works perfectly. I truly believe that any less well built flex shaft would have been cooked. And by the way, it didn't twist on my UNTIL I was at the last few mm of driving screws into well seasoned 2x6 joists.
