It was unclear from the description if I would need to install the blades but they do come pre-installed. This planer is plug-and-play. I just recently received it so I can't comment on functional longevity but the planer is quiet and easily removed a crown caused by a warp in a 13" wide board used for a project. The planer also comes with a blade sharpening jig.

Very aggressive, powerful and does a great job. Have to use care to not over cut. Chips do exit on right side and really pile up. The depth dial is not easy to understand...have to check with gauge. Used on walnut slab and cut easily.

Comienzo por lo malo ya que no todos leemos los comentarios completos y este tipo de situaciones suceden a menudo: el responsable de publicar sus productos en este sitio es el mismo vendedor no es amazon; si bien amazon es responsable de aplicar controles de calidad a los anuncios y productos vendidos a travez de ellos, es el vendedor a fin de cuentas quien tiene la responsabilidad de decir verdad en los articulos que pone en venta. Bueno, este articulo me llego sin el famoso maletin que tiene anunciado en su titulo principal de venta, al contactarlo me responden que ellos no son responsables de los titulos publicados, que es amazon mismo; despues contacte a amazon y ellos dicen lo contrario y comence un proceso de una devolucion parcial dado que pague por un equipo y su maletin; ahi no termina todo ya que, para que amazon pueda comenzar este proceso, es necesario que el producto halla sido entregado y, a pesar que esto ya sucedió, el estado aun no es reflejado en el sistema de amazon, por lo tanto el proceso no puede ser iniciado. Aun no termina esto, pues he decir que el producto me llego muy rapido (hace 2 semanas exactamente) por una paqueteria que no es la habitual que usa amazon (la cual no puedo nombrar pues corro el riesgo que censuren mi comentario y este no pueda ser leido por ustedes); a esta fecha, el estado de entrega de este pedido indica que se será el miercoles de esta semana (11 de diciembre), sin embargo, ya hubo 2 cambios de fecha, y sospecho que es con la finalidad de que amazon no tenga las posibilidades de solicitar el reembolso parcial. En fin, el producto si es de buena calidad y llego cerrado de fabrica y completamente nuevo, esta hecho en Japon y trabaja a la perfeccion para mis necesidades. Les recomiendo tomar evidencia de lo anunciado y preguntar antes de comprar si es que necesitan un contenedor donde guardar la herramienta para su cuidado y transporte. Espero que sea de utilidad este comentario.

Great power, but it has no dust/chip collection. I ended up designing a dust collection shroud with a nice interior geometry on SolidWorks and sending it out to one of those 3D printing services (mine was in Brooklyn and they made and shipped for 45 dollars). The shroud I designed fits a 2 inch hose and is available on GRABCAD for free. I also used West Systems epoxy to fill the 3D printed shroud to make it feel more solid. The shroud attaches with 3 screws and some silicone sealant for sinks and stuff (GE clear II).Seems pricey to put dust collection on, but man does this thing let the chips and fine dust particles FLY. Hooked up to my small cyclone and rigid SS shop vac it works nicely. 30 minutes of planing is around 30 gallons of chips.

This planer kicks butt, plain and simple. Yes, the exhaust is poorly located, but the small hose on my Shop-Vac fit in there just fine and handled most of the debris. The 'kick stand' on the rear is very handy and saves wear on your blade. The 7.5 amp motor and wide sole plate make for high efficiency. This thing made short work of my latest cutting board project, reducing the finishing time (and wear and tear on my arm muscles) by a huge amount. I would definitely buy this model again.

I use this to square up furniture that I build. I am a hobbyist that likes to build solid wood furniture and this planer is ideal for finish work. It is a little heavy, but you get use to the weight and it helps keep things stable. I would recommend this to anyone that needs finer finish work. Also, I would recommend that you get the dust bag or hook it up to a shop vac because it does produce a lot of dust..
