I’ve seen some negative reviews but I got great results with this paper right from the start. Has a good tooth and it allows light on dark pastels

A family member is a pastel artist, and loves to paint on sanded paper, so I figured I would get them this assortment pack to try out, as a gift. This is a brand that they had never tried before, and it turned out to be an excellent value! They were very pleased with the texture and quality of the paper. The color assortment was also good for them as well.

I was surprised at how sturdy the backing paper was- very nice, won't be prone to curling. The surface DOES have considerable tooth, it's just- odd. It is not a uniform tooth, neither is it a fine coarseness (like Wallis was), so that whole areas will have high-tooth spots and other areas, low tooth spots, making the coverage hit or miss. No matter how many layers you put on, no matter how soft the pastel is, some areas just do not fill in and these oddly-shaped 'holes' in the erratic and patchy surface show through (like Canson) unless you finger blend and force the pastel into the low areas of surface tooth. On the upside, it's not as expensive as Wallis was, nor as much as Claire Fontaine or even UArt, nor, especially, LuxArchivel, and, while I can like the former, UArt has become very bothersome due to curling in the dryness of Arizona, and Lux is nearly too dear.It is possible this paper would work very well if the artist used an alcohol inks- or even acrylic paints- wash in a value-based underpainting. May try that in the next piece. May give it away- dunno yet.Good value and it works- but you have to make it work.

The colors are lovely and the finish is a fine sandy texture…good for pastel pencils as well as pastels. I love that these are really more of a pastel board than a paper…very sturdy.

I received a shipment this morning of five sheets of this awful paper and I didn’t even place an order in Amazon marketplace. I’ve never shopped in Amazon marketplace, but when I opened the package, the paper is like sandpaper the kind you would purchase out of a hardware store. It is awful not only that, but it has spots all over one sheet that looks like mold - do not purchase this.

The "sanded paper" is very impressive. It can hold many layers of pastels. And the paper is hard enough to be used well in both dry and wet drawing. Sanded paper makes pastels more vibrant. Small size, good for pencil pastel practiceThe price is very reasonable. And I enjoyed making character pastels on the brown paper..I haven't heard of this brand but I am still very satisfied with the price, quality, and the final work.
