I should have read the reviews as I usually do. I forget this one time and get bent over and ramrodded by China once again. These do not function well as pencil sharpeners and are NOT magnesium so they will not work as an emergency bad weather firestarter. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY.

I stashed these in pairs in 6 different locations so when I am out and about, while camping or in a survival mode, I can sharpen points on sticks for hunting/security but also so I can make wood shavings and if necessary, scrape off some of the magnesium to strike a spark to it and start a fire for heat or cooking.

I bought these for the purpose of shaving the magnesium to use as a fire starter, not happening bc this is bs! Why can't one buy something as advertised?? Oh right, made in china!

All too often, pencil sharpeners do not result in a sharp point, but these do and being metal, I expect they will last.

My students always need their pencils sharpened. It does its job effectively.
