There is no wording on the bag that implies the soil is 'sterile.' I have found that, when wet, mites and other very small critters come out of the soil.As a worm holding medium I suppose this would not be a problem, but for cultivating white worms or other worms, this medium is not the best choice.

Works well with my nightcrawlers. They last a lot longer than the soil I was using. But feed them. I use coffee grounds, and cornmeal.

I bought this to cultivate white worms, tiny earthworm-like critters that aquarium fish love to eat. They've gone absolutely nuts in this stuff. The difference between their health and productivity in this vs the old soil from before is night and day.
