At first I thought this was a little small for the tub drain, it didn't hold very well until I tapped with a hammer wedging the teeth into the rusted old drain. It took some muscle but slowly the drain loosened and I was able to replace it. This is made of high quality metal and even banging on it with a hammer didn't mar it and the teeth look untouched. I got this specifically because I can use it on a variety of other uses instead of a single use tool.

Doesn't bite as well as it should and slips. Shouldn't have to pound the extractor into the drain with a hammer to get a grip and then it still doesn't grip. Teeth are not sharp enough nor of a hard metallic quality to do the job for at least my applications on tub drains.

This tool is likely required for bathtub drain repairs or plumbing updates. Removing the original tub drain can be difficult if corrosion is present. If it is not possible to loosen the drain using long nosed pliers on the inner section of the drain, then this tool is needed to be used to grip the internal drain wall. This tool must be used carefully. Use a 1/2" drive ratchet on the included socket and avoid putting too much force on the assembly so you won't damage the plumbing connections that are below the underside of the tub. When used carefully and gingerly, this tool can save you a lot of grief and sweat. 5 stars.

Ordered this product even after reading several of the negative reviews. It worked exactly as it was designed. With all reviews, many are made by people who do not know how to use a can opener. You have to take that into account when reading reviews. If the product looks built well and it has some positive reviews by others that seem to know what they are talking about, it’s most likely those negative reviews were left by a person that should not have been attempting to use the product in the first place.

This tool works awesome and you need this to take out the drain in your bathtub, I know it’s only a one time use but cheaper then calling a plumber

This is a very high quality METAL tool set. It works great for the purpose - it's one of those things that if you need it, you NEED it and it gets the job done. The storage case is a nice bonus and keeps all the pieces organized. The machining on the tools is precise and you can feel the quality in the heft. I wasn't expecting metal - that was a pleasant surprise. These tools will last a long time.

For me, this is a tool that is rarely needed, but is great to have for what can be a difficult or nearly impossible job. I am remodeling my house and need to replace multiple bath tub drains that have been in place for many years. Trying to use channel locks or plyers to remove the drain cover has damaged the cover and did not loosen it, leaving me in a tough spot. This extractor tool set bites hard into the drain fitting and removes it in a much easier way with less physical effort. This is an invaluable tool to have. It functions perfectly as designed, is made from quality materials, and is a great value for the purchase price.

Worked perfectly to remove a stubborn drain from a tub from above with no access. It's super simple to use and grips the drain better than I had anticipated with no slipping whatsoever. Plus the fact you can use a socket wrench on it or a breaker bar makes it even better. It's well made and includes a case to protect it, and find it, which is definitely a good value for what it does.
