I was skeptical that this reel would perform satisfactorily but I’m not super experienced at fishing so I figured if it would probably be a step up or at least a nice additional option. I was very pleased with it after opening this up. It’s extremely smooth feeling when reeling in and when the drag is letting line out. As a parent, it also feels solid enough and is at a price point that I could let my kids or their friends take it out.

I've been using the M1 Pro Spinning Reel for both freshwater and saltwater fishing, and it’s been nothing short of fantastic. The build quality is top-notch, with a smooth drag system that handles big fish without a problem. The 33 lbs max drag is no joke—I’ve pulled in some fighters, and this reel held up like a champ.Casting is smooth, retrieval is effortless, and it doesn’t get bogged down even after hours of use. I’ve taken it out in rough conditions, and it’s proven to be durable and reliable every time. Whether I’m fishing in a lake or heading to the coast, this reel gets the job done. For the price, you’re getting a high-quality reel that performs like one twice as expensive. Definitely a five-star buy for any serious angler!

I hate to spend big money for equipment that I’m going to use in saltwater because it’s so hard on everything. Super impressed with this reel at this point. I had it out surf fishing yesterday and although I didn’t catch anything big enough to put it to a real test, it performed great. The only thing that would improve it would be a bigger knob on the handle. It’s not much to hang onto when your hands are wet, but it works. I’m not going to deduct anything because of the great price.

I absolutely love this brand. I have multiple fishing rods from them and they are all excellent quality. I was initially hesitant to get this reel because the price was so low and I was worried it was going to feel cheap. But since I like the brand I gave it a try and I’m so glad I did. I can’t believe they can sell such a high quality reel at this low price. Outside of the quality and feel being great, the reeling in is super smooth. The drag feels like other higher end reels I own. When the bail is open, it closes easily when starting to reel in which is always a pet peeve of mine when other reels you have to close it manually because closing it while reeling in is too hard. Overall, I’m just shocked how great this reel is considering its price. What a deal!

I ordered the smallest (2000) size as a “beater” project to keep in my trunk. (I’ll bet everyone reading this has made ridiculous excuses to build another fishing rod, so don’t judge.). I am honestly shocked at how nice this reel is. I was expecting some plastic piece of junk, the kind of reel you buy at the campground’s “Trading Post” when you forget your real stuff at home. But it is a quality piece of gear. Aluminum spool, smooth bearings, etc. I don’t know how they sell this for the low price, but I’m glad they do! (It was literally $20 at the time of my February 2025 review.)(BTW, I have been fishing for decades and still suck at it, do definitely check out the reviews from some folks who catch more fish than I do.)It is 12 degrees in New England today and the river at my farm is frozen, this the only casting I did was with a small sinker tied to the end of the line in my field. But casting was smooth and the weight (admittedly heavier than most of the lures I’ll be using) went forever. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. I’m going to check out the Handing store to see if they have a smaller variant (I’m freshwater fishing in RI - don’t judge) and perhaps a collapsible rod to which I can match the 2000 reel. It should fit perfectly on a light, 6-foot rod.If you need an excuse to buy another reel, let this review assuage your guilt. Just buy it.

I don't know how they can produce a reel like this and sell it for such a low price! This reel feels good. Very smooth, and an instant anti reverse. It's rated for 33lb max drag, which I can definitely tighten down and achieve that kind of resistance, but I wonder if you really latched into a fish that NEEDED 33lbs of drag, that it would shred the reel. It doesn't feel robust enough. But, I don't run into fish that often that can pull 33lbs worth. I generally am going after trophy cats, which can range in 20-75lb, and they CAN strip drag for a short time at 33lb, but not prolonged. So, I have no fear or worries about this reel holding up for monster catfish. As a 5000 sized reel, it's appropriately labeled. The spool is machined aluminum, which I'd never have expected in a sub $25 reel. I was expecting graphite/plastic spool, so this was a very nice surprise.Front drag adjustment works well. Tighten the handle well. It threads into the main body, which is stronger than the typical thru screw that most economy reels use. This reel has a lot going for it, still so impressed for a sub $25 reel.

This is a very nice reel for the price. It's light weight due to the graphite reinforced frame. It spins super smooth. The bail operates flawlessly. The drag is smooth with a nice, audible clicker......and it also looks really great with its all black finish. If you're looking for a solid performer on a budget, this is a great choice.
