My son loves this fly fishing rod and reel combo. It comes with all the basics one needs to learn to fly fish and comes with a nice quality carry bag/case. The quality of the line is subpar, but it is enough to get you started. Highly recommend for a beginner.

Took this out fishing immediately after receiving it. Got the 5wt which work amazing for the 13 grayling I caught. I was impressed with the action and pleased with the quality. The reel looks amazing and works well. This is a great setup for anyone wanting to get into fly fishing. I highly recommend it.

I went with the 5wt 5-6 Black Reel combo, as a basic trout rig. The rod has a nice fast action, the reel is really smooth with a nice drag. Spool is reversible and will take all 100 yards of backing with room to spare. The zinger is a pin style, I personally prefer a split ring or carabiner style, but it still works. The tools are OK if you have nothing else. Backing, fly line, and leaders all work as they should (I primarily use the 4x).I have bought other Maxcatch Tippets before and they work fine, however this 4x Tippet spool did not come with a dispenser band. I have many extra kicking around, so not a problem once I have to start using this spool.Case is a pretty standard offering. The fly box is really nice. It is waterproof, 2 sided, with 220 slots. When I got to the flies I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were actually tied. I have received some pretty sloppy flies from online purchases in the past, but these seem to be of much higher quality and could easily be a $20 purchase if bought separately. a little on the large size for some of the Brookies I target, but still get the bigger ones.If your are on the fence about this kit, just get it. You won't be disappointed, and you'll get a free hat too.

I bought this set up because I thought fly fishing for trout in the Chattahoochee River of North Georgia would be majestic. I had never fly fished, just watched some youbtube videos and thought I was willing to invest a modest amount if Money in a set up to “give it a try”. I was super impressed with the quality at this price point. All the actions worked perfectly. So much so that I caught the eye of a PROFESSIONAL FLY FISHERMAN that guides for Orvis! He helped me one day… just for fun! He held the rod and was pleasantly surprise by the quality of my “Newbie Purchase”.His only complaint, and mine too was that my “floating line” sunk like a wet noodle. The box said it was floating line… but I think it was mismarked. Even a novice can spot a sinker! I’m bummed I didn’t get floating line in my kit. I think I could have done much better.Totally Recommend this set for a person looking to try and have a “river runs through it” moment. I’mA salt water guide in North Florida, so I love fishing and loved the idea of catching fish with different equipment in a different setting.

I have been using this fly rod combo for a while now and am satisfied with my purchase. All the fish in the photos were caught using this rod, and so far it has been frozen solid, covered in mud and dropped plenty of times, but the rod still functions and looks great. Casting is accurate and feels good, allows me to get a great presentation on dries and place flies exactly where I want. It has enough backbone to cut through some wind but it's still flexible and lightweight. I replaced the fly line with some higher quality fly line, but there's nothing wrong with the one that comes in the kit. The rest of the kit is great, I still use the leaders and tippet that it came with as well as the case, fly box, and weights. I found the strike indicators were not great but they still worked. Overall, the combo outperformed my expectations and I would recommend it highly to any beginner looking for a quality, complete setup. This is also good for a fisherman who wants to add a backup rod to their collection. If you'd like to catch fish and not break the bank, this is the perfect combo.
