I'm glad I purchased this growth chart with decals. It made the job easier and they attached well. I didn't like how it suggested hanging it 8" off the floor. To me that was confusing to measure and also I wanted to set mine on the floor to be able to measure and just attach the top part to wall. Anyway I put the my 1st set of decals one foot off the floor with my board on the floor. My grand grandson was taller than 1 foot when he was born. I put his name on the 1st foot down the board . Bought the letter decals at Dollar Tree. I worked my way up with the other feet. By starting at one foot with my decals it gave me 7 feet of decals to work with in height now. I did mine up to 6'7". That left me with some extra black decal lines if any got damaged through the years. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Bought the 8' board, the wooden pieces at top and block on bottom at Lowes. Painted it light gray with black accents. I bought the silver star at Dollar Tree also. My grandson is a star. He's 1 year old. Thought we could stick a photo of him on the star as he matures and grows in height. Now he has something that he can remember Grandad made him. Hope to make alot of memories with this project.I ordered another set of decals to make a growth chart for my new grandaughter born in April. She's 6 months old now. The decals work so well and make the job so much easier. I've been happy with the value and quality on both sets i bought. I painted her's lavender and put a tiara on the top. She's our little princess!!

I bought this as a Christmas present for my grandson. The set is exactly as described online. We went to Lowes and got the size board they recommend in the directions. The directions are clear and easy to follow. The nice thing about getting it from Lowes is that if they don't have the boards you want in the right size they will cut it for you for free. We found a nice light grey board that was already finished (but not sealed). This looked perfect in his room. While we were there we picked up a sanding block and the polyurethane as well. One stop shopping. The directions on finishing the board are very easy. We lightly sanded the board all over. If we hadn't already gotten a finished board you would just pick out a stain you like as well and rub it on the board, letting it sit for a few minutes and rubbing it off. Even if you haven't done staining before, it is super easy with directions on the can. Make sure you wear rubber gloves when staining because the stain is hard to get off your hands. Let the board dry overnight before putting the decals on. They are very easy to apply. Just make sure you press them down all over when applying. After that we just used the polyurethane we bought at Lowes. It comes in a can or you can get the spray can version which is a little more expensive but I like how easy it is to get a nice even coat. You won't have to worry about the brush strokes you get if you use the canned polyurethane. Make sure you let it dry well before hanging. I added screw in eye hooks on either side of the top of the board and used a piece of rope to hang it. It was very cute. I'd recommend this project even beginners. It is easy and comes out fantastic looking.

This is exactly what we were looking for and so easy! I've gotten some great complements and on top of that it has been a fun DIY project my four-year-old could "help" with. I like that it goes up to 6'8", is very durable, and can change houses with us when we move. The directions that came with the decals were pretty good and easy-to-follow. If you check out their website you can find faq's and even more comprehensive instructions plus some great suggestions and ideas.Like most good things, though, you need to make sure you take the time to do it right. You have to allow several days for the stain or paint to dry and the clear-coat if you choose to use one. It is all explained in the directions and it warns you multiple times not to take short cuts. If you are pressed for time and choose order one it might be good idea to check out the directions and suggestions on their website while you wait for delivery. That way you can decide how you want to finish your chart and have everything purchased and ready to go when the decals arrive. You could even have the board already stained or painted if you're really on top of things. If you are looking for something "right now" you might want to look elsewhere. If you don't mind taking the time to get great results, I'd recommend this hands-down.

This is a great product. Easy to use and quick start-to-finish -- once I read and re-read the directions a few times! Just wanted to be sure I was doing it correctly. The directions were clear, though, and easy to follow. Just know that the backing paper is the side that's not easy to see though, while the transfer paper is. Also, it seemed to me that I needed to place the strips kind of "upside down" in that the longest dash (the one indicating the 12" or foot) would be on the bottom of the strip. As is mentioned in the directions, and as others have mentioned, you DO need to measure accurately, as the strips themselves are not exactly 12" in length. Please see my picture of the strips of measuring tick marks placed on the board BEFORE removing the transfer paper -- you can see the gaps between each strip. I haven't hung it on our wall yet, but the "final" picture gives you the idea. I also have not yet placed the "left over" tick marks above the 6 foot mark, as I'm not certain I'm going to use them. We don't expect our daughter to be that tall. ;)Overall, very happy with the product, clear instructions, and final result! I used a 6' x 7.25" x 0.75" oak board purchased from Lowes, which I then white-washed (days before application of the vinyl decals).
