Advantage of Magnesium
Magnesium is the third-most-commonly-used structural metal, following iron and aluminum. And magnesium is the lightest structural metal with a density of 1.74 g/cm3 in its solid state.
It is used in a wide variety of applications from medical and metallurgical to chemical and pyrotechnic.
Magnesium is the highest on the electromotive series among metals in salt water, making it desirable as a sacrificial anode for cathodic protection. Constructive uses of this mechanism are employed in batteries.
Cast magnesium alloys are used for many components of modern automobiles, and have been used in some high-performance vehicles; Die-cast magnesium is also used for camera bodies and components in lenses.

Used these to create some crankshaft bearing shims for an old 1950's motorcycle. I selected them because they were very exact in thickness, were lightweight so as to keep the inertia of the crankshaft low, and were easily workable by hand with a file.

I have worked with cobalt, alnico, steel, titanium, aluminum, etc. This was the first time I used magnesium. Despite the information you see online about cutting magnesium with diamond, I cut it with a hobby coping saw. It cuts very easily and is probably the easiest metal I have ever worked with. This was such a nice metal, approximately 40% lighter than aluminum, I have no doubt I will use this again.

This product is great for a wide variety of applications. One use is for art projects as it is easy to manipulate into different shapes. It is an excellent firestarter as well and is useful for outdoor projects such as leaf disposal. Solid, high quality product that I recommend.
