*How to use the leather background stamping tools?
1.Pls use our stamp for stamping on wet vegetable-tanned leather with a nylon hammer. When the leather dries, the effect will be visible.
2. Pls ensure that the stamp is perpendicular to the vegetable tanned leather (do not tilt) to avoid bending the stamp rod.
*Note:
The vegetable tanned leather is easier to show the pattern when it is wet and then stamped.

I actually purchased this to see if I could use it to add some texture, tooth, and surface variety to smoother art papers so I could use pastels and color pencils on some of the papers I have in my stash that are designed for different media, but aren't quite as "toothy" as I like. I was able to use this tool with must my hands (no hammer or mallet) as long as I put a few sheets of paper underneath what I was trying to texturize, or something like a mouse pad. It was inconsistent (as would be expected) but it worked well and it saves me from having to prime everything with gesso or ground.

I just received this, just in time for some tooling that I am doing on a knife sheath for home use. The leather was already cased, so I could use this at once.I first stamped a piece of scrap leather anyway, to be certain about how it would look. I am impressed with this stamp. The pattern is clear with sharp edges. The edge of the pattern on the stamp has slightly raised edges, like all good stamps. This allows one to adjust the stamp perfectly for the next adjacent stamping. I got a beautiful pattern without much overlapping. The material of this stamp is steel alloy. I do not know what type of alloy. A background stamp is used extensively, getting repeatedly hit. So I have no idea how long it will last before it bends or gets deformed. I hope it lasts for a long time.
