This is a very convenient two minute test to check for lead in your municipal tab water. I don’t have old pipes that might contain lead but I wanted to see if my tab water has any lead. The test was negative which gave me a peace of mind. It’s very easy and inexpensive way to check. I highly recommend it.

Followed the instructions, but the test didn’t show the first line, making it hard to tell if my water is safe or not. Not sure if it was a faulty test or just unclear results, but I expected something more reliable.

I chose this test because it was much cheaper than other recommended lead tests. The test is easy to do in about 10 minutes, and the results are easy to read. No assessment of colors is required; you just have to decide if there are two lines or one line on the test strip. It doesn't tell you exactly how much lead is in your water, but it tells you if it has more or less than 4 ppb. I don't have much to go on in assessing how accurate it is; Consumer Reports says to be wary of home tests, but I wasn't concerned enough to pay $400 - $500 for a lab test.

I got the test to see if an antique slow cooker I bought (it's from the 1970s) is leaching lead into the soup I make. Got a positive test so I stopped using the slow cooker. Of course, I'm not sure if that actually means the test is accurate, but I was impressed to see a positive result (especially since I was highly suspicious of the slow cooker for other reasons). It's definitely a pricey test though.
