Got these to test thrift items, a suppring number of older dishes and cookware have lead. These are super easy yo use, give quick results that are easy to read, and are overall perfect for surface testing just about any item.

These lead test swabs are easy to use.The bottle of them comes in a box with instructions, and the instructions and lead ppm guide is also on the bottle. The bottle comes sealed and there is a desiccant pack in with the swabs.Wet the swab, wipe for 60 seconds, read the chart.I tested them on some imported "stainless steel" to see if it also had lead. The swab turns yellow when you first wet it and eventually back to white if there is no lead on the test material.I'll find some fishing weights and test a swab on them and see what happens. If you are looking for a simple lead test, give this one a try.

This is a set of 30 DIPSTIK lead test swabs. The single-use swabs are easy to use. Just dip the swab in water to wet, and it should turn mustard yellow. Rub the wet swab on the surface that you want to test for about 60 seconds. Then check the tip for any color change. It can take a little while for the color to gradually change, so give it a minute and don’t be quick to judge. The back of the container shows a graduated color scale. If no lead is detected, the swab will remain mustard yellow in color. A 100% lead item will show dark purple. In between, you might see varying shades of pink, red, or purple depending on how much lead is detected. This lead test kit is handy to have! Now I can check all those things that I’ve been wondering about!

Hard to find items in rural AK! Showed up pretty quick considering our mail. Great quantity for checking multiple items.

I gave these test swabs 5 stars, because it is hard to know if they work or not.I bought these to see what the lead status is in my 100-year-old home. I stripped the paint down to the plaster in one room using a chemical stripping process to avoid any possible airborne lead. But the stripping process was time consuming. Heat stripping my paint would take much less time. However, the results with the lead swab indicated no lead, so either my walls are lead-free (all that wasted time, lol) or that the swabs do not work. The testing process is quite easy. Dip the swab in water and shake off excess liquid. Wait for 30 seconds. Rub the questionable surface for 60 seconds. Compare the swab color with the bottle.

I really don't know if this works so I'm giving it a 3. The swab did turn a mustard yellow color after wetting it. However, after rubbing a few items for 1 minute, it never turned the darker orange for no lead nor did it turn the other colors to indicate it had lead. I'd like to believe the items I tested, a kids musical and a metal stand does not have lead in them since the indicator didn't confirm.

Tested KNOWN lead, gave a negative result. Seems to not be enough Sodium Rhodizonate to test or even get the pretest "mustard yellow" color, too faint. If other packages of this product prove similar results, this product should be deemed dangerous.

The test doesn't work. I tested a lead cube multiple times and followed directions, but could not get the test to become positive. Would not recommend this to anyone.
