Aside from this dish drying mat NOT being an eyesore on my counter, it actually works pretty well too. I’ve never tried a stone drying mat till now. I love that I don’t have to worry about it getting that mildew smell like a fabric drying mat. It comes with a little sand paper to buff out any stains that might get on it. & sometimes you can just use a rag to wipe off a stain if it’s right after it happened. This mat is large enough to dry quite a bit. & it seems to be pretty sturdy as well. This mat also rolls up for “easy” storage. Even though it is still pretty big.

When I first saw this stone dish drying mat, I was quite puzzled by the concept of diatomaceous earth - a material with a property of rapid moisture absorption. Once unpacked, the mat impressed me with its smooth, stone-like finish and a surprising lightness for its size (less than 5 pounds). At 23.6 x 15.7 inches, it comfortably fits next to my sink, handling everything from coffee mugs to large pots without feeling overcrowded. The included non-slip mesh was a nice addition, ensuring the mat stays firmly in place during use, even with heavier items. Using the mat was a straightforward experience. True to its claims, it absorbed water almost instantly, leaving no pools or streaks behind. Plates and glasses dried noticeably faster compared to traditional fabric mats. Its foldable design was another feature I liked - rolling it up and tucking it into a cabinet was easy, saving counter space in my compact kitchen. Cleaning it was equally easy - a quick rinse and a few scrubs with the included sandpaper removed most of the stubborn spots. However, I quickly learned to avoid placing anything dark or staining, like coffee cups with drips, as these left marks that required extra effort to clean. While the mat is undeniably functional, there are some concerns. It is less forgiving than traditional mats if something drops - a plate or glass landing on this hard surface could easily chip or crack. Additionally, although the mat is highly absorbent, the diatomaceous earth surface is prone to showing scratches and minor discoloration over time, which detracts from its sleek appearance. Overall, this drying mat is a stylish and efficient addition to any kitchen and a solid alternative to cloth mats or bulky drying racks, but it does come with a learning curve and a few limitations that might not suit everyone’s needs.Bottom line:The diatomaceous earth dish drying mat is a sleek, absorbent, and space-saving alternative to traditional drying solutions. It rapidly absorbs water, dries dishes quickly, and is easy to clean, thanks to its smooth, foldable design and included sandpaper. However, it’s less forgiving for dropped items, prone to scratches and stains over time, and requires care to avoid discoloration. Ideal for compact kitchens, but its hard surface and upkeep needs may not suit everyone. I give it 4 stars and recommend trying it out.Pros:1. Absorbs water quickly, leaving dishes dry.2. Sleek, modern design with a smooth finish.3. Lightweight and easy to store.4. Non-slip base keeps it stable during use.5. Simple to clean with water and included sandpaper.6. Large size fits various dishes comfortably.Cons:1. Hard surface can break dropped dishes.2. Stains easily from dark liquids.3. Scratches and discoloration develop over time.4. Requires careful use and regular maintenance.
