The point shattered on the first hole I drilled. It was sharp. It went through 12 mm steel plate. The point came through and broke at the 3/16 step. No voids. No idea what happened. I was using it in a 1/4 inch impact. I would buy another one.

When I first ordered this, I didn't realize it only went to 1/2". The item picture makes it look fatter than it really is. I generally want a step bit that is going to a larger size than your average bit set, which generally goes to 1/2".However, it still has a place since you can conveniently make a pilot hole and continue to easily bore out the hole until you get to the size you needed without needing to change out multiple bits.It cut through some mild steel just fine and allowed me to then get another step bit started to finish the hole size since I wasn't entirely confident in the second step bit to actually pilot the initial hole in the steel.

I'll give it to OXMUL, this is a good little step drill bit. I say little, because it steps from .125-.5". Handy for a lot of applications. I'm using it mainly on aluminum, and mild steel. The description states that it can be used on harder metals, but I won't be testing those claims. So far it's staying sharp, and the holes are clean. I'll keep it in the provided plastic container so it doesn't get beat up in a tool bag.

I read a few reviews that said these don't last long. I think it depends on the type of metal that you are going through. I think for regular steel or aluminum you will be fine. After my 2" hole in 1/4" steel (on a trailer) it doesn't show much sign of use, so I think it will hold up to everything I would put it through. (stainless steel is pretty hard, so it may have an issue with ss). Great addition to my tool "collection". Saves abuse on my drill by not using a smaller bit and the drill "wallering" a larger hole than the size of the bit. Good to have - save time, save drill abuse and save effort. Glad I bought it.

Large drill bit became dull very quickly. Small drill bit was fine. it did get the job done
