We got these books a few weeks ago for my 4 year old, Pre-school, son. I've been struggling with getting him to practice handwriting because its something he doesn't particularly enjoy.When I saw these Lucarni Grooved handwriting practice books I thought they would be prefect to help build his confidence in handwriting, and I was correct. He Loves them. Previously we were using dry erase, with which he had some trouble and would get frustrated when his lines didn't match up. But we no longer have that issue using the grooved practice books!This set of Lucarni handwriting books cover Math, alphabet letters, drawing skills, and numbers. It also comes with little dolphin shaped pen grips to help your child hold a pen correctly. The final thing I didn't realize, the pen ink disappears! Making these books reusable over and over again. It takes about 5-7 minutes for the ink to dry out and fully disappear before you can rewrite the letters in the same exact spot for hours of practice. This kit also comes with plenty of refills for the special ink pens (ours came with 10 ink refills)My 4 year old has been enjoying these books and its finally less of a struggle to get him to practice handwriting in preparation for school.

I use this with youngsters I tutor. By the time they come to me, even at five years old, they have already formed inefficient writing habits and are resistant to letting the hand go in a different direction. This very shallow groove allows the child to easily override the correct form and follow the direction of habit. Also, what is the purpose of the little stem at the top of the five?

This set of 4 copybooks include alphabet, numbers, drawing and math. The set includes 2 pens with disappearing ink and ink cartridge refills. The letters, numbers and shapes are all impressed on the book pages. So preschoolers can follow the grooves to learn correct form for writing/drawing. Then later, the ink disappears and the books can be used again and again for practice. I love this! I had purchased standard paper workbooks for our 4 year old. But after she covered the page with practice letters and erased holes in the paper, it is just done. This allows for much more practice without the waste! The books all have colorful illustrations making them interesting for the child. There are also a few fun extras like find the difference between pictures, connect the dots, etc. Fun and educational!

There are 4 books they each have 16 pages. Half of those pages are the ones that are indented and semi-gloss the other half are a matte finish with bumps from the indented page you can feel. They did put small activities on those pages.There is one pen so if you have more than one kid you can only have one work on the books at a time. It does come with replacement inserts. They are easy to replace.The writing letters are a little small for my liking at about 1/4" tall for the tall ones and 1/8" for the short letters. Then in another book it 1/4" to 1/2" height for the letters. The numbers are 3/8" tall.The indents are nice but not something that will truly make a difference in how a child draws as you can't tell if you have crossed out of it if your not looking at it.There are a lot of styles when it comes to letters but I don't think I have ever seen a lower case f have a tale as long as a p and as tall as a capital. Then later in the books when using the letter f they use a normal one.In the number book they have this odd line that sticks up from the 5.They used a line system with two sets of dotted lines in-between 2 solid lines. putting the lowercases in the center. This looks off to my eyes and might make things confusing for some kids. At the same time if you have a child that has an issue with tails and going below the solid line in writing this might work for them. A lot of the upper case letters are set lower and look like they were not sized correct to line up in to the dotted lines and are far from the top solid line.The ink does vanish after some time from anything you write on.Even with all those issues they are good books, I just wish they had made the letters bigger and used a consistent font. It would have also been nice to have more than one pen so more than one kid can use the 4 books at a time.
