The lack of instructions or at least helpful links to instructions, software & firmware you'll need doesn't seem to me to be an accident. My box was factory sealed. The Amazon seller apparently couldn't be bothered. You're left to figure out WHAT you need, WHERE to get it, and HOW to use it once you find it. It's like to trying to solve your way out of an escape room to get this thing updated, deployed and running.Once you've managed to find the correct software and firmware, you'll have to first log into the device with a browser to update it. For that, you'll need to get the default password which, for devices made after 1/1/2020, is unique to that specific unit (older units just use "PASS"). I only know this because I discovered the user's guide on the support site which discloses this fact. The PW is the last 8 characters of the Device ID. One could be forgiven in assuming they're referring to the hexadecimal MAC address printed on the device's label, but one would be wrong and become further frustrated. The solution turns out to be documented in yet another knowledge base article you'll have to search for and find - it's NOT in the user's guide where it belongs. I recommend searching for "XDirect" and pursuing the articles.Turns out the Device ID is actually embedded with a bunch of other gibberish in the matrix-style, 4-box QR code label on the device - which my fully-updated iPhone Camera app can't scan and decipher (I'm on iOS 16.4). The solution is to download an a free app called QR Reader which can read and dump out the QR code. The default password is the 8 characters that precede the (M1) marker in the QR dump string. You're welcome. This review only garners two stars since the hardware itself is well done. It would have been 4 if the seller had bothered to include pointers, five if he had included the salient instructions with the sealed box.Now I need to update the firmware and install the Windows based Com Port Redirector software (thanks to other reviewers for that tip) so that my application can communicate with the device as if it was connected with a hardwired link using a real COM port. Wish me luck!====Note that this device is wired as Data Communications Equipment (DCE) pinout on its female DB9 connector. If your equipment is also DCE (likely so if it also has a female serial connector), you'll need the appropriate null modem to do the pin swapping. There's another article on the manufacturer's website that goes into detail about the various flavors of null modems and what you need to use and when.
