This kit meets my rules for successful tool design: rugged, simple, and convenient. The rugged plastic case is ideal for storing and protecting these high-quality punches. The punch set includes two sheets of gasket material in the case, thus converting the set into a handy gasket repair kit.I suggest coating the pieces with oil to prevent rust when in storage. I used WD-40.

Works on 1/2" mudflaps and on thin gaskets. I did have to make a thicker paper gasket and it cracked the material but I'm not sure it would have if I popped the holes before cutting my shape out.

After reading critical reviews of this product with detailed photos of poor grind, edge damage, and so on, I ordered this set with trepidation. I'm more than satisfied with what I received.Included:- Ten punches sized 1/4" through 1"- Mandrel- Paper insert (this was shrink-wrapped on the outside)- Two sheets of Interface N-8051 (a standard oil resistant gasket material)- Plastic blow mold caseFit and finish:- All edges are reasonably sharp, most are excellent.- Sizes are dead on.- My 9/16" had some minor scuffs to the edge that I was able to correct with some creative honing.- Markings aren't perfectly consistent, but all are legible, and all are STAMPED rather than laser engraved, which I believe is much more durable against the ravages of time.- The case has a proper hinge that opens to about 130°. Front clasp is bendable plastic, but is distinct from the case material and seems durable.I got these for working on small engines, carburators and such. I was able to cut a beautiful 9/16 OD, 3/8 ID gasket out of KAROPAK for a lawnmower carburator on the first try.Other thoughts:- Hidden on the included paper insert it says: "When attaching punch to mandrel, use a twisting motion."- Once a punch has been used, the punched out disc is generally stuck inside the punch. This is easy enough to extract by removing the punch from the mandrel and pushing the disc out from behind with a nail or other sufficiently long and narrow stick. Nothing included with the set can be used for this purpose, so this is a minor suggestion for improvement.- If my set had the quality control issues others have shared, I would be upset. Quality tools and the expectation of quality tools is important, and I'm glad to share this positive experience.- As of this review, the set is still Made in USA, and stamped as such on the individual pieces.- This set is an excellent value for a quality tool.

I bought this gasket punch set for $36.70 sold by Amazon. The punches are not sharp but I used it once so far punching 1/16'' thick neoprene rubber and it worked. I plan on sharpening them at some point.I think it's a good value set overall and comes handy. I like the case that keeps everything together and that's one of the reasons I bought this set.I took all the photographs after cleaning everything with alcohol because they came sticky with oil which is not a bad thing to prevent rust.It was hard to attach the punches on the mandrel which has the rubber o ring to hold the punch so I put silicone grease on the o ring and it's easy now. The instructions say to use a twisting motion when attaching punch to mandrel, which helps.

This is one nice punch set, well made, nice case, and re-sharpenable. And I’m very impressed that it’s made in the USA, I’m from an era that still knew this label as a sign of quality, even though I’m in Canada. Well worth the money.

I was looking for a way to expand a hole to 1/2” in a piece of plastic (tie hanger). I tried a couple solutions with no luck. Finally decided to buy this set and give this a shot. It came and seemed sharp. I gave it a try, and it worked flawlessly! I have punched 30 out of the 150 tie hangers I have to do. I was able to do this in a relatively short amount of time with little effort. This set is handy!!! It’s strong, accurate, heavy duty, and works!

Great for cutting gaskets, leather, plastics, etc. More solidly constructed than some of the punch sets I've seen. As long as one doesn't try to cut through metal sheeting, they should give a fairly long life. (Actually, I'd trust these punches to work with brass or copper shim stock.)

I had read the reviews for this and other hole punch sets, and decided on this set even though people said they were not sharp. After years of working as a mechanic and reading reviews one thing I have learned is to take what others say with a grain of salt. Currently I am working on a boat project that requires me to make some gaskets out of plastic, like milk jug plastic. I cut out the shapes I needed and marked them for holes. I got out the size punch I needed, and used a piece of 2x6 treated pine as a backer. Two good hits with a ball peen hammer and I had the hole I needed. Finished up all the holes just like that. You can see examples in the picture, washers are next to the cleat. No problems with this tool.On another note, I went to 3 stores looking for this as I wanted it right away. I was looked at like I had 3 heads when I asked for this, not a single store sales person knew what I was looking for!

Good quality punchers, although rather expensive. But I got what I paid for. I wish the set contained smaller sizes.

No they're not. This quality punch set was made in Wisconsin by Americans. Go team! I needed a punch set with an array of sizes from 3/8" to 1" to cut some felt and vinyl circles for a project. I had to make a couple hundred and I had to be quick about it. Even though I've been taught this lesson before, I initially cheaped out and bought a Neiko set on Amazon for about half the price of the A&E set. The box the Neikos arrived in was still warm when I put the set back in that box and sent it on its way back to Amazon. They were just not serviceable. I did a little research on A&E and once I realized they were American made and not typical Chinese junk, I bought a set. They arrived rust free and very very sharp. I cut a finger withing 2 minutes of fiddling around with the A&E cutters. That was impressive. They worked even better on the vinyl sheets I am using than they did on my finger. For best results It's best to use a hardwood or maybe a plastic (like the ones food cutting boards are made of) to cut on. I am very satisfied with this set, especially for the quality vs price. It's a winner.
