This is true even knowing that every new pair of boots we send out into the world is by nature unfinished. Only when they're worn in the toughest conditions Mother Nature can dish out, do they earn their name.

I wear a 12 in the Burlys, so I ordered a 12. Sent them back for a 13.

They did not fit the calf the way my other Lacrosse boots fit in the past.

...but, perhaps less protective, or resilient. I get exposed to particularly nasty effluent that generally dries out and stiffens, to the point of brittleness, PVC Chem-gloves. This means that various brands of usually 16" high boots give up and leak in less that four months of wear.Admittedly, I walk from 4 to 9 miles a day ( by other guy's measurement doing the same job ) on broken, rocky, muddy, strewn with wood and metal bits, chemically contaminated ground, frequently using my boots as hammers, in all weather. This short lifetime for boots of all materials and makes in this application seems to be typical. This is the first pair of LaCrosse boots for me. They are noticably warmer than 5mm or 8mm neoprene boots worn below -25º F. However, the cold seeps in through the sole. I addressed this by placing 1/2" felt insoles in the bottoms and removing one of two pairs of heavy wool socks from the many layered socks I wear daily (Polypropylene x2, Nylon x2, wool x1 or x2, cotton x1 to 3 all depending on season and outside temperature). Sweat management is vital, regardless of season, as is a good fit as I walk a lot and a poor fit can tear up socks in a day. I have spent quite some time and effort in creating an orthotic regimen that fits my feet to the boots of the day. My feet don't match, nor do the length of my legs.As described by the manufacturer, these boots do indeed fit more snuggly than any others of my experience about the heel, leaving more room for my toes than other makes of boots in a comparable size. I have a wide toe (D to E) and a narrow heel. I expect that these will last a bit longer than others due to the fact that these will be worn on colder, therefore snowier days, that being snowier will naturally clean the chemical goo from the boots, reducing their exposure to the chemicals that cause rapid failure of the rubber/plastic/adhesives involved.
