About this item

  • [48 Colors] Gansai is traditional Japanese watercolor, utilizing colors that are based off those seen in nature, meaning they are vivid and opaque. Pans are carefully filled with paint that is smooth, not granulated, and dries with a slight shiny finish.
  • [Flexible Techniques] Paints do not leave hard edges when dry, making flat-washes easy to accomplish, and are easy to layer with proper technique.
  • [Brush Dexterity] Gansai Tambi Pans are much larger than typical watercolor pans, giving you the ability to use both small or large brushes quite easily.
  • [Palette and Color chart included] Within each Gansai Tambi set is a protective sheet that not only keeps your pans from shifting but can be used as a palette mixer. Each box also includes a color chart so you can swatch the colors yourself and distinguish between them quickly.
  • [Beautiful Packaging, Ideal for Gift-giving] Water-based pigment is ACMI-certified, and packaged in a simple cardboard box with elegant green washi overlay. Perfect for gifts.

The quality of these watercolor paints is excellent, and it is one of my favorite of many that I own. I love the fact that you can use them so they are solid color, and you can use them for transparent watercolors, and everything in between. They blend beautifully, and the colors are rich and a delight to use, and keep their vibrancy on the paper. There are so many color choices, you have multiple opportunities to make a lot of different colors. The value for the price is excellent.

This is a great set for a beginner like me. You can remove the pans of color that you would like to use for your project. Beautiful assortment, beautifully packaged. Would recommend.

I am an intermediate beginner and of all the paints I've tried these are the best. The paints are rich in color and incredibly smooth. The full pans last a long time. The price is right for the quality. I will buy these again.

Excellent water colours. Great size paints, although shallow . So it makes it easier when painting large areas. More opaque then other water colours. But gives you the benefit of using it like gouache or water colours. Great colours. I would purchase again.

I love this brand of watercolors. The Japanese type are more opaque than traditional watercolors. They come in so many colors and larger pans. I use these for paintings in my sketchbook. It’s a very high quality for the price. I recommend them to anyone from beginner to pro!

I had been using watercolor in the tubes, but it’s so messy and such a process to get it all together. But I had never really liked the cake watercolors, they weren’t strong enough, saturated enough. After someone told me about these, I decided to try. The color saturation is great. The ease of use is wonderful, I’m so happy with them.

Bought these after watching some youtube videos - artists I enjoy watching were using them, and I wanted to give them a go myself. I'm really enjoying them. The colors lay down nicely and play well together. They sort of act like a cross between actual watercolors and gouache - they're a little thicker and creamier than the watercolor, but not quite as opaque as gouache. But yet they're still a little translucent, and layer nicely. All around they're a joy to use. It's a nice size set that I can usually find several colors to match when I use an inspiration card from the "color cube". I read somewhere recently that they aren't as light-fast as some traditional watercolors, so I'm not sure I'd use them on a "real" piece, but for my purposes, I'm super-happy. (I'm just an amateur that enjoys messing around with various art supplies.)

Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors are good quality, saturated, and fast dissolvable. Strong pigment, easy to use, but the pans are half full, as most of negative feedbacks mention. They are also the same size in all sets, interchangeable and replaceable, which is a good idea.Flimsy box of carton but they can be moved in a better box as you work, selecting only whet you need. They may come broken from transportation but they have a film over and the pieces are not lost, just need a bit of water to stick them back in the pan.The quantity of color in a pan will be enough for 2-3 big artworks of a professional painter. Since we do not use them all in the same time, the set will be uneven consumed and fast. They cannot be used directly from the pan, if you work on a transparent watercolor painting, must be diluted on another well to keep the same color, because they are very concentrated, saturated colors. If dry the color will crack but can be activated fast with water. They are specially made for oriental painting where you do not re-touch the work but with a bit of patience can be used by a professional if you like the pigment. Uneven balance between value and quantity.
