I’ve had a lot of disappoint with pepper grinders I’ve purchased. Even the OXO grinder I ordered- a brand I usually trust- was fragile, with a door that repeatedly fell off. This one looked good. It’s from a Swiss company, and it had a lot of good reviews. I took a chance and ordered two, one for black pepper, and one for white. I wasn’t disappointed. These grinders are easy to use, easy to fill, comfortable in the hand, and don’t tip over. Adjustment is simple, and varies from coarse cracked pepper to a fine powder. The clear glass doesn’t scratch or fog and of course makes it easy to see how much pepper is left. The size is good for either kitchen or table. I can recommend these without reservation.

I've had a couple of different pepper grinders over the years. This one is hands down the best one and especially for the price! The grind wheel works perfectly: you can adjust the grind between very fine and coarse to your liking. It's easy to fill as well. And is someone with a disability in his hands, I find the wide base and the notches on the bottom make it easier to use.As a serious home cook who takes the grind of my pepper seriously, I would recommend this to anybody not merely for the price, but for the quality and ease of use. This is probably the one you want.

Had it lasted a year, I'd have given it 5 stars. It's fantastic when it works. But a small plastic ring broke on the inside and now it does not work. $25 for 6 months? It should be better engineered than that.

I'm thrilled with this pepper grinder--attractive design typical of Kuhn Rikon, nice solid glass and great range of settings (coarse to extra fine)--and a phenomenal buy at $9 in black (which I prefer anyway!).

I have a small kitchen and this is the perfect size yo leave out. Also work great and easy to adjust for a very fine grind.Super easy to refill. Also, pepper is best not left out for too long. The smaller size means i refill it a but more often from peppercorns i store in the freezer and always get the best fresh flavor.

I also have the larger version of this, purchased in 1998. It still works. A few months ago I discovered its only weakness. When you take off the red top, that exposes the grinder mechanism, which you unscrew off the glass. At that point, if you drop it and the nose hits the floor, the axle of the grinder wheel can damage the plastic support structure. With the top in place you can drop it all you want, nothing vulnerable will hit the floor. You can play football with it. As for grinding, there is nothing this thing won't grind unless it's harder than the ceramic grinder. It grinds up the toughest rock salt, the toughest spices, and it even grinds up dirt and marble chips. I am hoping this Mini will be as tough as its larger counterpart. It should be. It is exactly the same, just smaller. More table-sized. Another unique property of this is that you can rotate back and forth and the salt or whatever comes out, not back in. So you can grind away with glee! I like this thing. Well designed, well made.

This grinder works fairly well. Until it doesn't.The basic design is good, but they chose to use poor material in a key stress point of the grinder. The device works by crushing spices between two ceramic surfaces that have "teeth". One of those surfaces is in a ring that is embedded in the part that you hold steady while you crank the grinder around. The other ceramic surface is on a metal shaft that rotates with the cranking. The base of that metal shaft is in a plastic housing, and that's where the problem is.When your spice is being ground between the ceramic "teeth", a strong torque is applied to that metal shaft. And what is absorbing the force? The plastic housing. So as you crank the grinder, that plastic housing gets stressed. And stressed. And stressed. Eventually it cracks. Now the shaft spins in the housing and no more grinding occurs. See photo. It seems like this issue would be fairly simple to fix. Either beef up the thickness of the plastic used to house the base of the metal shaft or, even better, use metal for the housing. That's a slight increase in the material cost for the grinder, but it will last for years instead of 2 months.

Si. Lo utilizamos en casa todas las mañanas desde hace más de dos años para moler semillas de lino para el desayuno, sigue funcionando igual de bien y no hemos tenido ningún problema, cumple perfectamente con su cometido.

I want to add flax seed to my diet and read that ground seed can go rancid fairly quickly. It's better to buy whole seed, store it in a cool, dark place, and grind as needed. So I went looking for a grinder. The Kuhn Rikon Mini Vase Grinder grinds flax seed well as long as you set it to fine. On the coarse setting whole seeds (which are indigestible) come out. (It doesn't come with a user guide but it seems that you put a little pressure on the wheel when you are adjusting the setting.)I really like the size. I can leave it out and it is both cute and unobtrusive. It is the same height as a jar of peanut butter and I can just get my hand around the narrow part with my middle finger and thumb touching.Unfortunately, the size is also the source of my frustration. I planned to start slowly, with a couple of cranks of the grinder and, as my body got accustomed to the additional fiber, add more. A couple of cranks on this is a tiny amount, less than "a pinch." That's the combination of the fine setting needed for flax and it's being so small. Little grinder = little wheel. It gets the job done and I am keeping it but I think this grinder is more suited to things like salt or peppercorns which can be ground a little coarser.
