Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pen Set Review: A Promising Start Hampered by Ink Flow IssuesOverall:The Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pen set is a well-made, high-quality technical pen set with some drawbacks. While the build quality and refillable ink reservoir are excellent, certain ink flow inconsistencies can be frustrating.Price: The price point of $120 for 7 pens and a small ink bottle is on the higher end, making it a luxury purchase for many.Recommendation: These pens might be a good choice for professional artists and illustrators who need precise control and a variety of line widths. However, casual users or those new to technical pens may find the finicky ink flow and scratchiness frustrating.Pros:High-Quality Build: The pens are well-made with a sturdy construction and stainless steel nibs.Refillable Ink Reservoir:The pens can be refilled with a variety of inks, which is a plus for long-term use.Color-Coded and Labeled: Each pen is color-coded for easy identification of line width, and labeled for easy maintenance.Tool Included: A small wheel tool is included to help disassemble the pen for easy cleaning.Cons:Inconsistent Ink Flow: Some users, including myself in this review, experienced inconsistent ink flow, particularly with the thicker nibs. This can be frustrating and lead to skipping and uneven lines.Scratchy Nibs: The pens may not provide the smoothest writing experience compared to gel pens.Price:The price point may be prohibitive for casual users.Final Thoughts:The Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pen set is a high-quality product with some potential drawbacks. If you are a professional artist who needs precise control and a variety of line widths, these pens may be worth the investment. However, if you are a casual user or are new to technical pens, you may want to consider a different option.Additional Tips* Always prime the ink flow by shaking or tapping the pen before use.* Experiment with different types of ink to find one that flows well with these pens.* Be sure to clean your pens regularly to prevent ink buildup and clogging.

Had a set when I was a kid. These are just like them. Work well.

I have used these pens for 45 years and I know the disappointment of when they clog. Here's what I think the user should practice. Sometimes a person uses the pens a lot, but then puts them on the shelf for months or years. If you don't plan to use the pens, unload the ink and fill the pens with distilled water. Don't reload the pens with old ink if you suspect that it is old. Also, when in active use, you can fill the caps with water before screwing the pens closed and then keep them upside down in a glass or mug. Of course, the smaller gauge pens are more prone to clogging, but they are usually the same pens I use frequently. Also - when you decide on your favorite pen gauge, it might be better to just buy either another pen for a secondary color. I have made these pens gifts to family members for a long time. They are always grateful.

This is a sturdy product. Well packaged, with plastic wrap and hard plastic case, the set invites one to use it. I felt very pleased when I received the product. The pen holder and cap are made of plastic but they are made tough, for a tough use, professional level. When filled them up with ink, they are fluent in the plotting of lines. These pens are for technical setting though I use them for art work. The lines are consistent and do not have thickness variations. They however need to be kept cleaned to avoid plugging. Recommended for any stylograph of any brand. Nothing new here.On the other hand, I was not keen of the white color of the pens, I prefered dark colors, greens or blues; however, after using them a started to appreaciate it. The main reason is that the lighter color help to identify where the pen is and which is the nib thickness you are looking to swap for (the color of the ring holding the deposit is different for every nib size). The caveat of the white is they may stain permanently, not enough time to assure that but, at the same time is an advantage because you clean them up inmediatelly when dirty or stained with the ink.I've scrutinized the product, the nib, the nib holder, the screwed ring to keep the ink deposit in place, the cap clip, the case, a product well made. What was a little bit questionable was the engraving of the letters on the pen nib holders. Also, the caps have the letters not well engraved. Actually, one of them, the 0.3 mm, had it almost gone. This is a very good quality product and the price is right, competitive. I've used Koh-i-noor pens for a while and would buy more but I expect they improve on that issue of the 'lettering" of their products.Since I cannot grade them with 4.5 stars, I give 5 stars but sorry, I am a little bit picky on the appearance of such pens.

I like the way pens come in this kit. Stylish, durable, and very well made technical pens. The refillable ink bottle is a nice thing to have. I do look forward to getting the uses out of my new set for years to come. Great grab and lucky to have this kit as part of my art supply collection.

Bought this product for an artist friend who is highly pleased with the variety of nib sizes and the ease of use of the pens themselves.

I am an artist and I bought these pens to do fine line drawings. I was using a lot of micron pens and they get really expensive. Make sure you ask the seller which size set it is, as there is one set with slightly larger point sizes and one that goes all the way down to 0.13 mm or something! That is just finer than any pen on the market. These pens are picky because of the way you need to care for them. But if you love drawing and you love the pens, you will take care of them and they will stay perfect. You have to clean them when not in use. I bought the Pen Cleaning Kit that comes with a pressure bulb to force the cleaning solution and hot water through the pen. It's kind of expensive but it has been crucial to the cleaning process. I have not found out yet if other inks are compatible with these pens besides the koh-i-noor black ink, but I'd love to use some colored inks. Definitely do a little research on these before using them! All in all, they last forever if you are good to them, they make beautiful lines, and I recommend this pen to anyone who loves drawing!

I could not have bought a better Rapidograph set unless it was new! I bought it as a gift for my 12 year old son to experience, as I have owned one since 1988 as well as a Mars-o-matic set, which I adore. Needless to say, he and I were impressed with the condition as well as the performance of this set. I don't do a lot of online purchases, so seeing this come in a timely manor and at a great price exceeded my expectations. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Rapidograph pens are some of the BEST pens you could possibly use, especially if you're frustrated with having to spend $5 on a new pen every week because the ink ran out or faded. They are also good for people who like nib pens but hate how tempermental they are in producing lines without releasing all of their ink in the same stroke. These pens can be put through hell and will not break, and are very easy to clean. The downside to them though, is that if you ever, EVER shake them, the ink well will build up pressure and cause the pen to leak. It will not affect the line in any way, but you will get ink all over you hands until you open the pen up and clean it out, which isn't a big deal at all. In the long run, these pens end up being cheaper than using, say... Microns... if you do a lot of inking, as you will pretty much never have to get a new pen, and just buy a new bottle of ink once a year or something. There's a LOT of ink in each bottle, which is great because it means it will take a lot of use before it's all used up. The ink itself is great because it is very dark and remains an even tone, and it dries really quickly, meaning that smudging never happens! There is also a fantastic range of thick to thin in this set, which makes both detailing and filling a hassle-free endeavor. I think that's pretty much everything.Trust me, these are the best pens you will ever use. Ever.
