Excellent candy thermometer. I use this every time I make caramels, toffee, peanut brittle, and fudge. Easy to use and spot on temperature.

I was very excited to get this thermometer. I've seen them on cooking shows and finally decided to treat myself when my old one died. I wasted my money. Thinking since this is a KitchenAid brand I'd be fine, I didn't read any reviews. This thing is a piece of junk. First, I live at sea level, where the boiling point of water, as everyone knows, is 212 degrees F. I tested it, and water boiled at 217 degrees. Five degrees off is huge for things like making candy (which I do). The caramel for my Christmas candy was way over cooked and I had to go to the store, get new ingredients and start over. (That's when I decided to test it with boiling water). The other problem is that the clasp that is used to attach it to the side of your pot slides right off the thermometer. It's super unsteady. I was stirring the caramel with a spatula, and every time I got near it, let alone touched it, the thermometer flew out of the pot and landed on the stove, leaving a trail of burnt sugar all over my stovetop. KitchenAid ain't what it used to be. Time to start looking for a new one. Sigh.

This is big, but it has multiple use for our kitchen. Durable and solid made. Highly recommend it for friendly use and large for easy to see while cooking.

A MIXED BAG OF PROS AND CONSThis product definitely has its share of pros and cons. To start, I did not realize just how large this thermometer is. It measures a full foot long! The pro on that is that it’s easy to read. The con is that you are going to need to find space in your kitchen to accommodate it (preferably a quiet spot where it will be safe from breakage).CAREFUL WITH THAT CLIP! BEND IT IN FOR A SNUG FITThe silicone clip is good for holding the thermometer in place. In fact, it’s the silicone clip that attracted me to this KitchenAid product. HOWEVER, be sure to take off the clip and bend the clip inwards so that it doesn’t slide too easily. My first use, I assumed it was already snug. The clip went sailing off in the middle of making caramel… which was bad. A pro is that the back of the thermometer is curved so it fits up against a pan better than a flat thermometer.VERY ACCURATEThe thermometer is fully calibrated and it is very accurate. I made licorice caramels with it today, and the hardness was perfect.IT’S A BEAR TO CLEAN - BOILING WATEROh my goodness… this thermometer is TERRIBLE to clean! I took photos of the nooks and crannies where I had to get out sticky licorice caramel. Be sure to clean this thermometer IMMEDIATELY after use or you will make it even harder on yourself. I did finally get it clean, but it definitely was a time consuming process. UPDATE 08/17/2022 - An experienced baker gave me some very good advice on cleaning: IMMEDIATELY SOAK IN BOILING WATER AND CARAMEL WILL DISSOLVE AWAY.FINAL THOUGHTSI have mixed feelings about this product. I appreciate how easy it is to read and how accurate it is. I wish someone had warned me about securing the silicone clip so it didn’t go sliding off my first use. It takes a bit of extra effort to clean this giant thermometer, but boiling water can really help!
