Thickness is just about the thickness of a number two lead pencil soft Yes I bought to cut and put in sweat pants makes a great belt and any don't have knots you can't get out of your draw strings run through the holes stitch a couple of loops of thread in the back so they don't come out in the dryer and use heat shrink tape to make aglets on ends

This is a nice, high quality rope. It's silky smooth and it comes with metal end caps. I'm definitely pleased with it.
