Great value. Blade could be a bit sharper, but it only takes a few sledgehammer swings to split even the densest logs.

I found that I couldn't use it with a full size log. A thin split piece or a round branch the size of my forearm worked well. I quickly filled up my kindling rack once I started using it. You don't need a full size maul to split it, but I found a medium size single handed one works ok.

The Kindling Splitter from SPEED FORCE is a safer and more efficient way to split logs and kindling without the risk of sharp axes. Made with a high-grade 45 cast steel blade and a high carbon steel body, it promises long-lasting durability and resistance to wear and tear. The splitter’s slanted fins help prevent jams and make splitting easier, while the sharp blade is ready to use right out of the box. It can be mounted on a stump or another anchor for added stability, and it is portable, making it ideal for use in your backyard, on camping trips, or with your RV. The large 6-1/2" diameter splitting capacity can handle most large logs for heating stoves or fireplaces. This tool is a reliable and low-maintenance companion for anyone who needs to prepare firewood.

I would like to start this review by saying that I own several different types of these kindling splitters. In this review I will be comparing this splitter to what I consider to be the gold standard when it comes to these type of splitters, the Kindling Cracker XL.The biggest difference between this splitter and the Kindling Cracker XL is that this splitter has a forged blade that is welded in place, rather than being cast as one solid piece, like the Kindling Cracker XL. This does introduce a potential weakness into the splitter, if the welds are not very well done, but it would appear that the welds are pretty well done, and I don't think they will fail with hard use, but I thought it should be mentioned, just in case.In case you've never used one of these before, they are designed to be used with about a 3-5 pound single-handed hammer, not a 2-handed sledge hammer. If you are splitting a piece that you can't split with a single-handed hammer, you probably need to split it with a splitting maul, or a powered wood splitter first, till you get it small enough to fit into this splitter. This type of splitter is designed to be a kindling splitter, not a log splitter, regardless of what it says in the description. For sure, the Kindling Cracker XL is the higher quality and better kindling splitter of the two, but this splitter is less than half the price, at its current selling price of $39.99, so if you want a kindling splitter that is nearly as good, but a whole lot cheaper, then this one is definitely worth your consideration.

I am quite impressed with how well this splitter is built. I was afraid it would be flimsy and bend with use. It takes a pretty solid piece of equipment to handle splitting wood. It handled larger pieces with ease. Splitting them with a few solid blows of my Estwing splitter. I do think it would have been easier with a larger one handed sledge. It also doesn't split knotty would well, but neither does my Estwing. I usually use a cleaner piece of wood to make kindling anyway. Also works better on shorter pieces of wood. I do think it is a good investment and it should last because of it's very sturdy build.

...but this thing is a total BEAST!The weight and size of the box really surprised me. I guess I assumed this would be for splitting really small kindling. It's a seriously heavy-duty monster of a workhorse that bolts onto a big round. The blade is sharp enough, and the angle of the bevel is blunt enough that it may never need sharpening if I don't hit it with metal too many times. The arms on the sides can easily hold a heavy piece of split firewood or a 6 or 8 inch trunk round or limb section. This isn't a toy or novelty. It's not temporary, as in, "Let's see how this does until it breaks". This is a serious piece of very useful equipment that's going to make splitting kindling a whole lot faster, easier, and safer for years and years to come. I can't see it ever failing, but if it did, it would be easy enough to weld it back together and maybe add some more meat to the blade while we're at it, like they do with the sacrificial weld-created "teeth" on snow plows and backhoe buckets.I love this thing. It's a heavy one. I look forward to it taking regular beatings as a valuable tool in our arsenal of chore helpers, with an air of stoic solidarity, and for a very, very long time.

a) Arrived well packaged and in good shape. b) I love that it is a able to accommodate wood that is couple inches larger than most of these I have seen. Of course that means a little heavier. ( This can take 9 1/2 logs, my other one which is the only size I have seen before is 7 3/4 inch) Doesn't sound like much, but that is a huge difference! c) Has built in carry handle if you care to bring camping with you or have multiple places to use it. Has 4 anchoring holes to attach to a splitting block ( I only need two to hold it in place temporarily. d) Splitting edge is quality and should last a long time , as long as I don't hit the edge with my sledge ( I made a little rhyme there) . E) one minor annoyance is since there is no ring around the midsection, if you are splitting short logs, they slip through and fall to ground. If there was a ring around, it would contain the wood so no bending over to further split. It is also a bit spendy , but allowing the larger girth of log, it is a good value.
