The new tags are available for use with 125 kHz RFID reader technologies, and are available with optional printed id. Having no power of their own, they can be read by card readers when they penetrate the electromagnetic field produced in the proximity of the reader. The range depends on the antenna and field generated by the reader, so the tags will have different read-ranges with various readers. I have used the wallet cards with my Rosslare system and thought I would give these a shot as some folks would prefer a fob over a wallet card. These don't show wear like a wallet card so if they are turned in, they can be reused without looking beat up.

Works for our application. The only thing is that it's NOISY!!! If you use a caribiner, people will hear you a mile away!

I love these things; so much less clunky than the regular credit-card sized proximity cards. I'm on my third box of these with no DOA fobs yet. Note that these do not have a site code; they just have a regular 5-digit code on them. It's a little tricky to read the code on the fob (semi-shiny surface just means you need to find the right angle) but that's a minor thing.
