Built for heavy duty use near wildfires, I use it to monitor climate outside my home. Accurately measures temp, heat index, rel hum, dew point, pressure, wet bulb. Connects by blue tooth to its phone app. Distance limited by blue tooth but at least 30-40 ft through wall to outside. Will record data. Professional quality. I esp. like knowing Heat Index (apparent temp, “feels like”).

App is a little slow on android but otherwise works great. Fun to see live conditions instead of relying on a "nearby" weather station miles away on weather apps.

I have been searching for a data logger I could use in my model rocket launch activities. The Kestrel Data drop units are my answer to record Temperature, Humidity and Station pressure. Using the D3FW I get those and other values. The data drops communicates over Bluetooth to the Kestrel App on my smartphone. With that I can view and download days of data as a .CSV file by email. I now realize my previous assumptions about field conditions were not accurate or precise at all. Even in my backyard I can see differences, An amazing system!

The iOS app is pretty much unusable on the iPhone XsMax, making this an expensive paperweight.

Great product. Took a few tries to get it to pair with my phone initially, but no issues since then. Battery is still going since early June 2018. The temperature sensor does lag the environment a little, but quick enough for intended applications.

This is my third Kestrel Drop D3. I bought this particular D3FW model because I wanted instant access to Wet Bulb Temperature during outdoor activities, which the D3FW offers in place of Density Altitude on the standard D3.Wet Bulb Temperature indicates the temperature of evaporating water given the air temperature and humidity. Thus, it is useful in assessing potential fire danger because it is a key criteria in the exchange of moisture between the air and dead forest fuels.The same measurement also correlates with the danger of heat-related illness, because it indicates to a large degree how effective human perspiration will be at the current air temperature and humidity. For example, at a Wet Bulb Temperature of 80F, perspiration becomes ineffective to cool the body during physical activity. At 92F, perspiration ineffectively cools the body during rest, even without clothing and in the shade. Finally, a Wet Bulb Temperature of 95F is lethal after 6 hours.Like the other Kestrel Drop products, it works as advertised. Download the app on your iOS or Android device, connect to the device, and that's pretty much it.One very important tip: Be sure to use fresh, genuine CR2032 batteries if you want to be economical, and for the device to work for long periods. Don't make the mistake of buying bulk packs. They only last a couple of days, if they work at all (some won't even power up the device). I have been using the Kestrel D2 model to monitor temperature and humidity in the rooms in my hatchery for several years. We decided to add on a few more locations to monitor, including the outside conditions. The D3 works well for this because it gives me the pressure reading in addition to temperature and humidity. Kestrel drops in general are great for tracking temperature and humidity through the logging capabilities. These require and Android or iOS app and connect with Bluetooth. Range is pretty good in my building with steel insulated panels for all of the walls. IN my experience, the iPhone app is better the. The Android.

I've only had this for a few weeks and it will lock up randomly and stop logging. Sadly, it did this on it's first outing so we were only able to collect about an hour of data out of our 8 hour outing. Contacted support and they are sending me a new unit. Plus 2 stars for awesome customer service (Something that's hard to find these days).
