About this item

  • Cobalt steel tools are similar to high-speed steel, but with more cobalt for improved performance when cutting harder metals such as stainless steel or nickel alloys
  • Titanium nitride coatings add a hard layer of gold-colored ceramic to the surface that extends tool life and permits faster cutting speeds than uncoated tools
  • Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems
  • When run in a counterclockwise direction (right-hand cut) spiral fluted tools evacuate chips up and out of the cut to reduce clogging
  • 82 degree angle

KEO ZErO flute countersink and deburring tools are simple, all-purpose tools made of Cobalt that provide flawless countersinking and deburring. The chatter-free cutting action requires minimal power. The microsmooth CNC precision ground construction produces clean, smooth cutting without smearing on a variety of materials. The tool especially excels in countersinking or deburring holes in aluminum, plastics and other nonmetallics. I was hoping that this would be a good solution for countersinking stainless steel. At first it seemed great, nice clean countersink, no chatter. After countersinking only 3 holes I noticed the bit was chipping, and on the 4th hole the cutting edge broke. I was using a drill press, low speed, lubrication, even used compressed air between holes to cool off the bit. Disappointed, but not entirely surprised. Not the solution for Stainless Steel.

This is the best countersink for metal at this price. The picture isn't right, it's actually the gold TiN-coated version. If you're countersinking in wood, almost anything will work. For steel, though, you want a cobalt-steel bit. Regular steel will dull immediately, even if coated in titanium or cobalt. Paired with cobalt steel, the titanium nitride coating on this bit ostensibly keeps it sharper, longer. Not necessary for aluminum, but definitely desirable for steel. The most common screw head angle by far is 82 degrees. The 5/16" shank will fit in both 3/8" and 1/2" drills, which is almost all of them. I had no trouble using this with a handheld drill. It seemed just as sharp on the fifth hole as the first. Highly recommended.
