I purchased this thinking i was upgrading from my floating hydrometer and followed the directions to a tee which caused me to place too much salt in my tanks almost losing my 8 fish. I dont know why this didnt work as well but I will be throwing this meter in the trash.

Shows salinity approximately .08 less than what it actually is. Carefully followed calibration instructions. Found out after everything kept dieing and I started validating my water parameters. Expensive problem in the salt water world...

If there are no bubbles and if it is soaked in water for several hours it works but lacks of precision. Have bought two and each one gives a different reading.

This thing has so many leaks, had to use Crazy glue to stop it from leaking so I could use it... need it, so won't return it but what a disapointment.

I have a salinity probe on my controller and a refractometer. This is my backup checker. I use it regularly because both a salinity probe and refractometer must be calibrated and go out of calibration. My Kent Hydrometer just works and is pretty accurate. It doesn't go out of calibration. So I periodically use it to validate my other means of measuring salinity.Yes it leaks. Yes it gets bubbles in it that makes it hard to accurately measure. But once you get the bubbles off (by tapping), the results are accurate.I really don't understand the poor ratings this has. Because it does work. It is accurate (once you deal with the bubbles). And it doesn't need to be calibrated.

Hi, for me it is a great hydrometer, every time I use it gives me the correct reading; I have a picotope, so water needs to be perfect all time...
