I'm a type 2 diabetic who wears a CGM and takes a GLP-1 medication...so I generate a lot of bulky waste from those items. While this thing is big, bigger than your standard bathroom trash can, it holds those bulky sensor applicators and medication pens easily. I anticipate I'll get maybe a year out of it before I'll have to dispose of it (will likely need some shaking and shimmying to help with keeping things compact in there) - bonus is I could use my HSA money to pay for this. Will be back when I need another one!

so I buy one every two years - cost less than most others that are smaller and since the town takes sharps for disposal at no cost - this is very economical and convenient.

I purchased a storage unit at auction that had about a dozen milk containers filled with dirty needles. It was an absolute nightmare! I called the police but they wouldn't take them. They told me to call the local dump, which was also a needle collection site, but the dump said they wouldn't take them unless they were in a sharps container. I told them I wasn't qualified to take the uncapped dirty needles out of the milk containers and transfer them, but they declined to help. I called everywhere that I could think of, but I got the same answer every time; transfer them into a sharps container. So I had no choice. I had to clean out the unit or be charged a large fee so I purchased this 5 gallon container on Amazon hoping it would be large enough. It arrived in 2 days. This container saved the day! I put on a thick pair of work gloves and proceeded to be brave and get it over with. I had been advised to take a utility knife and cut the bottoms out of the milk cartons to empty the needles. Thankfully the lid on the sharps container came off and I was able to dump them right in. It had just enough room for the 100's of needles, and I filled it to the rim. I snapped it shut on all 4 corners. It had a beveled edge on the red container underneath the lid, so I was able to easily pick it up and put it in the car to transfer it to the dump. Our local dump said they had never seen a container so big, but took it since it was an official sharps container. I'm very thankful that you make it in this size and delivered it so quickly and I hope to NEVER see another dirty needle again in my life!

You have no idea how much I love this thing. I take shots three times a week that come prepackaged in their own little auto-injector that cannot be removed to dispose of separately. That leads to me being able to fit roughly three, four if I really work at it, in the average size sharps container supplied for me with my shots. It is currently July '14 and I've used this since November '13. I'm just now getting to the two-thirds full mark and needless to say, it's fantastic. The container is roughly the size of, and not all that much unlike, a small (non kitchen) garbage can. The plastic of the container itself is strong with just enough give to it that you won't end up accidentally cracking it. The lid fits snugly and is quite easy to close. Thankfully, due to its size there are little hand holds on each side of the container under the lip for the lid. While it wouldn't be hard to pick it up without them (it's in no way -that- big), having them makes things a bit simpler still. If you want to use this container, I would advise that you check with your state, and/or county, etc about regulations for disposal. Regulations change depending on your location and it would do you no good to buy and use the container only to find out you cannot take it for disposal. Some locations would not take it at all, others would take it with no problem, and others still may take it and charge you more for disposing of it. All in all, best to find out before purchase.
