Nitinol, also known as Ni-Ti is one of several shape memory alloys available. The shape memory effect comes from the mixture of nickel and titanium transferring between the martensite and austenite phases of crystal structure. Basically, what this looks like is you have a wire that you can straighten, bend into any shape, mash, etc. and then place it in hot water to watch it come back to its original shape. The uses for this are endless. These make wonderful magic tricks for when you dunk the wire into someone's coffee, the wire turns into the card that they have in their hand. They're great for birthday parties to see your child's amazement when this simple piece of wire turns into their name when someone 'accidentally' spills coffee on it. Other uses include robotics, heat engines, science projects, practical jokes, artery stents for a bypass surgery, the only limitation is your creativity.

Ok there is no way you should be able to show the picture posted. This was absolutely leading and really should be false advertisement. You got me on this one this is why I will be sending it back.

Tried to do a magic trick for my nieces and nephews. Bending the 0.5mm wire into a recognizable shape such as paperclip was very difficult and the end product looked bad. I wouldn't recommend for amateurs trying to do magic tricks.

That's the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. The product itself is great. However, there's nothing provided in the package to teach you about how to use the product. You get several short lengths of nitinol wire, NOT A SPOOL!

I bought this to use in the classroom for fun science day. It worked twice, and then stopped. I tried another piece - didn't work. We were all disappointed. Followed instructions to a tea and tried online directions - still nothing.

Wire acts as it is advertised. Strange material and very interesting experiments can be done. Interests old and young alike.

Works sometimes until you hear it up with a lighter to change its memory shape.

Amazing product. As described, no issues. Great demonstration as the wire sprung back to original shape with heat.
