The directions are easy to read and pictures show how to do stitches

The instructions aren’t written well. The yarn splits often and easily. The scissors are dull. I really wish I had saved my money. Only reason it isn’t getting one star is because I think I can make use of the blocking foam and pins so it’s not a total waste, but it’s mostly a waste. Buy something else

I’m a knitter and was always intimidated by crochet—I’ve tried many times before and always failed. So I wanted to try a kit. I’m glad to have a physical copy of the instructions for the basics (though I would recommend YouTube tutorials like TL Yarn Crafts for actually learning to crochet), and the hooks (though not the BEST quality) have ergonomic handles which I really appreciate. The notions that come with it are fine, and the little scissors are fun. However, my absolute biggest complaint is with the yarn. It was advertised as 100% cotton but that is absolutely not the case—I’d be surprised if there was any cotton in it. It’s definitely a synthetic blend, and not a great quality—it frays and the ply unwinds; on the yarn label it says it recommends hook sizes 2-3mm. However, my kit came with 2 hooks sized 3.5mm and 4mm. My first ever real attempt at crochet/a granny square (pictured left, the yellow mess) I started on the 3.5mm hook. But the yarn kept fraying, getting caught on the needle, it was tight, so I switched to the 4mm. That helped a little but I still had the same issues and ended up getting my yarn so tangled up in the ply that a knot formed and I gave up. Later, I returned to try again. Luckily I had a size 5mm hook on hand that I’d purchased ages ago and gave it a try with that. It worked beautifully! Still had some issues with the ply, but definitely not as much with the smaller hooks. So, in all, I think this kit is fine if you buy a bigger hook (which sort of defeats the purpose of getting a kit, but oh well.) I’m pleased with how my second attempt came out (pictured right, with my 5mm hook), I’m just disappointed with the yarn.

The colors of yarn pretty and soft, BUT the yarn weight and hook size to use in Chinese so I have no idea!! So winging it 🤞

I'm shocked by how good the yarn and hooks are, I'm a total beginner and everything is easy to use. The instruction book is decent as well even though I use YouTube to learn. Highly recommend this for beginners
