I have a few nice filters that are older screw-on style and when I decided to upgrade to a magnetic filter system I did some research to see which company had the ability to incorporate existing screw on filters. The only one that I found was KASE filters. By using the KASE DIY MAGNETIC CAMERA LENS FILTER ADAPTER KIT PRO, I could update a screw on filter there by converting it to a magnetic filter. This way my old filters would still be a viable part of my filter system. Luckily, I only had three or four that I wanted to do this with so it wasn’t too much more of an expense.

I recently switched to magnetic filters for my lenses and ended up buying the Freewell filters and Kase magnetic adapter rings. Filters and Kase adapter rings have the same magnetic polarity and are compatible.

This is an interesting idea. In situations where you are constantly adding and removing a filter (like when using a polarizer for landscape shots), this could be very helpful. It does have a few drawbacks, though. The system has four parts: A ring that you screw onto your lens; A ring that you screw onto your filter; a magnetic band that you attach to the back of the filter ring; and a tool for unscrewing the parts when they get stuck together. The same effect could have been achieved with two parts, if the ring that screws onto the filter were magnetic. As it is, I worry that the magnetic ring, the unscrewing tool, or both would get lost when using in the field. The added height, also, could be an issue with wide-angle lenses. It is a well-built system that targets a real photography pain point, but I don't know if it is well-designed enough to actually solve that pain point.

This seemed like a really interesting solution for those of us with tons of threaded filters, but a dedicated magnetic filter set is probably still going to be your best bet. The magnet on both the inlaid ring and threaded ring are just too weak to hold filters convincingly. If you are an event photo/video grapher there's a fair chance you could drop your filters if you're not careful.VND or CPL filters also suffer from not being able to turn properly. Instead the magnetic ring just keeps spinning infinitely when you try to adjust.
