Only tried the 1/4-20, the largest. It broke half way through a piece of 1/4” aluminum plate. I do need to tap the occasional plastic part, maybe the survivors can do that.

I can't say how well these would work in metal, but they work just fine in ABS, PLA, and PC plastic parts and a piece of wood I tried it in. For thin metal they'd probably be fine with slow speed and cutting fluid, but at There is no case, but I just keep them in the little plastic bag they came in.

Got this set to thread screws for some of my woodworking and other projects. They work well and feel good quality of material. They come loose in a bag which is a packaging miss in my opinion but doesn't take away from the product. Just weird to have bits loose in a bag.

That is what I use them for, so I can't comment to other tasks. I use them on thin gauge steel mostly and they get the job done without any fuss.

I have not used them yet.I thought I might need them to tap some harder metaland I have managed to avoid having to do that.BUT, their description says for wood, plastic, and soft metals which I assumeprobably means not much harder than aluminum.I am hoping I can at least use them as thread chasers for harder metals.Maybe I will find out some day.

This is a really great set to have on hand! I'm so glad it has both #10-32 and #10-24 because while I mainly use #10-24, I do end up with quite a few #10-32 as well. These are great for drilling and tapping with one tool once you get a feel for when the drill is going to get through and the tap will start. I have a sequence I like to use with these, I apply a drop of oil, set my drill on its high speed, drill the hole using only enough pressure to get the job done, so I don't accidentally engage the tap, then I remove the bit from the work, set my drill to low speed, apply more oil, then tap the hole. Yes, it takes longer than just drilling and tapping all in one shot, but it's still way faster than using a separate drill and tap, and I feel I have better control doing it this way. It takes excruciatingly long to drill the hole in high speed, and high speed is WAY too fast for tapping, so this twostep method not only lets me run my drill at the speed I want but also allows me to apply more oil for the tap, and that will definitely extend the tool life. These are good for material up to 3/16" thick, and they will barely work for 1/4" material if you are REALLY careful, any thicker than that and you will be trying to engage the tap before the hole is finished being drilled and that just will not work well, you need a lot more rotations per inch of feed for tapping than you do for drilling, so you really can't drill and tap at the exact same time. For thicker material, it's back to the separate drill and tap. I would not recommend these for material any thicker than 3/16, because it's just too close to the tapped portion. Even if you do not want to remove the tool and change speeds on your drill the way I like to, you still have to slow down for the tap in harder materials like steel or you will snap it off immediately, Drilling and Tapping are two VERY different things. I have some of these by other manufacturers that give you quite a bit more drill before you get to the tap, and that's what I prefer. If you are working with softer materials like Aluminum, which would be quite a bit more forgiving, then you might barely make 1/4" thick.
