I bought my 1541S to replace my starter machine a vintage Singer 111W155. I use PTFE thread and usually "Tenara Heavy" for marine applications and the Juki sews it with no problems at all. The Juki will also provide very long stitch lengths which will allow sewing through polycarbonate clear sheets that require 4 or less stitches per inch to avoid crack ing the polycarbonate material. The Singer was also very heavy duty but did not have reverse so it was more difficult to lock your stitches at the start or end. If you are just starting out or on a budget you might consider picking up a 111W155. I didn't get my Juki from this vendor but mine required quite a bit of assembly although the machine was perfectly timed and sewed perfectly once set in the table. If you are concerned about factory support and want to be able to get someone on the telephone to help you I recommend you look at the Sailrite Fabricator. I have their LSZ1 for my travel machine and their support is second to none.

My machine came partly assembled. There are several youtube videos out that go through the step by step process of attaching all the parts to the pre-assembled table. The servo motor is already attached to the table and the presser foot is already adjusted and ready to go.What you see is what you get. No huge selection of walking feet, no lamps, no pile of useless crap thrown in. You do get a aPlastic cover. A couple of needles an bobbins. There are a couple of screwdrivers and some Allen wrenches. You will need to buy some machine oil to lube it up and fill the oil well for the hook. All together it took me about an hour to be ready to sew from delivery to first tryouts. If you can get the material under the foot, it will sew it. This machine is a beast and will sew anything. It sewed through six layers of heavy leather as if it were sewing a single layer of quilting cotton. I call mine "The Hammer". Wow, what a sewing dream machine. The machine is a little fast for my preferences so I installed a smaller diameter pulley sheave on the motor and put on a shorter belt. That slowed things down so I feel comfortable with the speed now. Keep it oiled regularly and keep it clean.I have been using mine for about a year and I am glad I made the jump to an industrial machine for making my bags from leather and canvas. A home sewing machine will never do what this machine is capable of. Enjoy!!!

. I purchased the DNU1541S from a company who also sells household machines and that was a big mistake. Buy this unit from an industrial/commercial sewing machine company who knows these machines and they should be able to go over the unit before they ship it out. Household machines and industrial machines are completely different and I found that out the hard way. After paying a repair man a good amount of money to readjust the machine, it is now working fine. I have learned my lesson.

Would have been 5 stars but there is no instructions and as a piece of machinery I would think that would be pretty important...?I thought so at least.I did figure out how to get it working though but only because I work with sewing machines everyday.Sews through pretty thick leather with out a problem, I can't figure out how to turn the pressure foot down,so it occasionally leaves a line from the foot pressing down on it.I recomend it to people who come in to the store I work for almost every other day

Love this machine I use it 5 days a week. Put I wish I could stop the oil from comming out to fast. Other than that it is a great machine . It will sew light to heavy.
