How does it work?

During the process of venting crankcase pressure back through your intake track, large amounts of oil, in the form of vapors can gather/accumulate in your intake tube, intake manifold runners and even dilute your gas, lowering its octane level. This happens in all engines and is even worse with forced inducted vehicles (supercharged and turbocharged) as crankcase pressures are increased. To combat this, we have developed an oil separator of our own design. Milled from solid billet aluminum this is a rock solid piece. It has a knurled tank base for easy removal to drain the spent oil and an O-ring seal to prevent any leaks. This product is NOT CARB (California Air Resource Board) Exempt. It is not for legal sale or use in the state of CA or any other states adopting CA emission standards and require a CA Executive Order (EO) number.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to check my oil separator?

Most applications average about an ounce of oil every thousand miles. However, there are many factors in collection rate as every single engine is different. Factors such as driving style, climate, engine condition, oil level all vary and effect collection rate. People in cold climates will have to check their oil separator more often in the winter months due to condensation build up occurring in the oil separator itself. In these months, the air entering the can is significantly hotter than the ambient air temp. This results in condensation build up (think hot shower in a cold bathroom). We recommend everyone to check their oil separator 500-1000 miles after initial installation to get an idea of how often it needs to be serviced. The can holds 3 ounces without the optional extension.

Do I need an oil separator on both sides of my engine?

In most cases you only need an oil separator on the PCV side (dirty side) of the engine. This is the side that is under vacuum/suction most of the time while the vehicle is running and driving. The clean side typically is only used for venting when the PCV valve is closed which is under moderate to high acceleration. Some turbo vehicles can see oil in the clean side, such as EcoBoost F-150’s when they are exposed to frequent heavy towing conditions. On non-turbo applications anything short of road course racing you typically will not see a drop of collection out of the clean side.

What do I do with the oil that collects in the oil separator, can I put it back in the engine?

No! Dispose of this nasty oil that is mixed with fuel, water and everything else where you would dispose of your oil change oil. Many auto parts stores will take your old oil for free of charge.

Fits perfectly on my 2016 F150 XL 5.0. I am extremely amazed at how much oil and moisture this catches. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Had trouble downloading the instructions video from the provided bar code. But had no trouble getting video from other Internet sources. Installed in less than 15 minutes after watching video (YT). Very simple install. Will check can after 1k miles.

Material is good quality and well made.I describe myself as proficient around cars (change my own oil) install took 15 minutes and was easier than changing your oil. You will need some basic hand tools (Socket 10mm, wrench 10mm, power drill, w/drill bits and Philips head screw driver).I marked 4-star for the following reasons:The oil separator stands tall in the saddle and has approximately 1/2” clearance between the hood and separator. Seems tight? Unless the separator needs a certain height above the engine to work properly? The hoses clip beautifully in place and are super easy to install. But they tend to lay on engine it’s self. Which I don’t like. I’m sure the hoses are rated for higher temp etc, but freaks me out a bit. Going to keep eye on this. (And keep the factory hose in the truck just in case). So the bracket is maybe too tall depending on the first question above. The most difficult part of the install is the mounting bracket to the battery case. This takes 14 minutes of the entire install and seems a little clunky to me. Wish the install was a little cleaner and maybe in a different place.Anyways we’ll see I’m excited to see the results. Driven 200 miles so far and if you don’t hear back all is good!

This item came relatively quickly in spite of being delivered to rural Montana. It fit my ? It fit my F150 Lariat with a 3.5 liter ecoboost engine perfectly. It was very easy to install...I spent most of the time trying to figure out how to get the old hose off of the engine:-(. That was very simple once I got on YouTube. The hoses literally snap on as they are manufactured to fit that specific engine. Once I figured out how to take the old hose off, it took about 10 minutes to complete the project. I haven't driven more than 600 miles with the J and L oil catch can , but when I did check it after driving that distance, it did have about a half ounce of oil in it , which means it is working. I feel this is a must have product for anyone with these turbo driven engines, especially pre 2017 Ford ecoboost engines to keep carbon build up on the intake valves.

For 300 dollars, include detailed instructions. I almost returned it because I am no Mechanic. Thank god for YouTube. I wanted to put a one-star, but the product is decent and easy to install once figured out. After using it a few months I have upgraded my review to a solid 5. It is working great, and not impacting performance etc.

Works as described, I wish the seller would have indicated duties would have been placed on the item, I had NO idea this was shipping from the US until it was already sent. No import fees stated prior to ordering.

I love it and it works but I wish it had a different mount as it sits really high and I don’t like how it’s that close to the battery but it’s great! Instruction are straightforward and easy to follow and it took only about 20 mins to install and I did it the hard way haha
